"Exit: Astral", known as "Astral, Dead...!?" in the Japanese version, is the forty-eighth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime. It first aired in Japan on March 19, 2012, and in the United States on February 9, 2013.

Due to Trey's power, Yuma forgets all about "Kattobing" and ends up forced into a corner. However Kazuma, helps Yuma continue the fierce duel against Trey by using the power of the "Numbers" and Emperor's Key to break Trey's spell. Lastly Astral's last hope helps Yuma make a comeback by using Utopia.

Astral, who is trapped in a pillar, screams. Yuma sits up, frightened with Trey telling him to attack him but Yuma says he is too scared. Trey sets a card and calls Yuma a coward for not standing up. Yuma says he can't saying his monsters are too terrifying. Cathy, Flip and Caswell asks what is going on with Yuma. Bronk angrily tells Yuma to calm down and adds that he has to draw now. Yuma feels very worried as he draws. Unfortunately, Yuma thinks he has no options left so he decides to forfeit putting everyone in shock.

Trey laughs at Yuma saying that without his Kattobingu spirit from his father, he is a scardy cat. Bronk is confused and Cathy asks Yuma what's wrong. Trey tells them that he erased his kattobingu spirit and trapped Astral; he then reveals him to everyone. Flip asks what is Astral doing up there. Trey explains to them he turned Yuma into a loser and trapped Astral which caused everyone to protest. Trey tells Yuma that he declines his forfeit and skips his turn saying that he wants to use his full power on Yuma which scares him even further.

Trey says that this is Yuma's last duel ever and proceeds his turn. He plays "Chronomaly Mud Golem". He then attacks "Gogogo Golem", even though it cannot be destroyed in battle while in Defense Position, Yuma takes the damage due to the piercing damage effect from "Mud Golem". Trey then activates "Heart of Stone" so that "Mud Golem" can attack again. This time, "Gogogo Golem" is destroyed and Yuma Life Points are now at 1300. Everyone is shocked that Yuma is losing. Trey then attacks Yuma directly with "Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mech" hoping that Yuma will lose the duel.

Astral decides to help Yuma by using his last strength to remind Yuma about his Kattobingu spirit. Yuma gets some flashbacks about some of his duels he did fought and wonders if he is that strong. Yuma then sees "Gagaga Gardna" glowing and summon him to the field as he is attacked directly. This surprises everyone, including Trey. "Gagaga Gardna" is destroyed and Yuma now has 400 LP left. Trey wonders how did Yuma think about the effect as he is scared and realizes that Astral helped Yuma. He decides to torture Astral. Flip points out that Astral cannot take that much power. Yuma then sits up as the pillar Astral is trapped on is crumbling.

Before Astral dies, he tells Yuma not to give up. Tori Meadows cries over Astral's death. Trey tells Yuma that nobody is helping him. Yuma scared stands up, walking back and falls grabbing the edge. Cathy panics and Bronk tells Yuma to hang on, but Caswell says that it is okay as he thinks that it is just Argumented Reality and adds that even if Yuma lets go, he won't fall but Bronk tells Caswell that it is the opposite as if Yuma lets go, he will fall. Caswell realizes that Yuma is dueling on a highway under construction. Everyone runs to Yuma as he lets go but Bronk catches him. Yuma asks why are they helping him. Bronk asks if Yuma can't remember his friends which surprises Yuma as he thought they hated him but Tori tells Yuma that they cared about him, Cathy tells him that they do a lot, Caswell says that it is the reason why they are friends and Flip says that they always will. As they succeeded on helping Yuma up, Bronk tells Yuma that Trey tried to change Yuma's memories to make him look like a scared coward. He then grabs Yuma by the collar saying that Yuma is a guy who hates giving up. Yuma tries to remember but barely can.

Trey then interrupts by knocking everyone away from Yuma. This causes Yuma's Emperor's Key to fall off. Tori catches it. Everyone landed badly except for Cathy, who landed okay. Then iced pillars rise from the ground and electricity comes from it. Trey tells Yuma that they can settle this together. Yuma falls to the ground, Yuma's friends ask him if he is okay but they cannot be heard. Bronk gets mad at Trey. Tori is upset that they cannot help Yuma anymore and feels the energy from the Emperor's Key.

Inside the key, a mysterious figure says to himself that Yuma is in trouble and adds that someone must be up to no good. He used the power of the twelve "Numbers" to attempt to break the influence Trey has over Yuma. He then tells Yuma to remember the kattobingu spirit as a beam shot from the key breaking the barrier and hit Trey's crest, releasing his influence he has over Yuma. The figure tells Yuma to remember what he learned from him. Flashbacks of Yuma attacking with "Number C39: Utopia Ray" during his duel with Fortuno, Yuma attacking with "Number 39: Utopia" during his duel with Nelson and Yuma's first win as he attacks with Utopia in a duel against Shark appear before Yuma. At first Yuma didn't believe in the flashbacks as he is not brave but after a few more flashbacks, he wonders if he did do them. Tori throws the Emperor's Key to Yuma. After Yuma catches the key, he sees it shine. Then, he hears the figure, who is revealed to be Kazuma, telling him to remember what he passed on to him. Yuma now remembers his kattobingu spirit.

Yuma's friends are happy that Yuma is back to normal. Trey wonders how did he break the power of the crest. Yuma tells Trey that he cannot remove kattobingu from existence. Trey says he will erase him just like how he killed Astral. When Yuma hears this, he did not believe Trey and asks where is Astral. Trey tells Yuma that Astral is dead but Yuma is still not convinced but Trey tells him he did see Astral's death. Yuma still thinks Trey is lying and adds that it is the same lies he putted in his head. Yuma then asks his friends to prove that Astral is not dead but no avail. Trey tells Yuma that he won't see Astral ever again.

Yuma then goes in his knees crying over Astral's death. Trey yells at Yuma that he must do this for the Vetrix Family. Trey activates "Chronomaly City Babylon" to banish "Chronomaly Aztec Mask Golem" from his graveyard to summon "Chronomaly Cabrera Catapult" in Defense position. He then ends his turn saying it is Yuma's turn. He adds that Yuma has only 400 LP left while he has "Cabrera Catapult" and "Machu Mech". Trey says that Yuma will lose the duel next turn because Astral isn't with Yuma anymore but Yuma says he will win this duel and draws a card.

Yuma then remembers Astral saying that he will leave one day but leave evidence that he still exists. Yuma says that Astral still exists in his memories. He remembers Astral giving Yuma advice about strategies and if he finds his opponent's plans, stop them. Yuma says that he will lose if Trey use "Cabrera Catapult" and "Machu Mech" for an attack. Yuma then decides to either destroy "Cabrera Catapult" or "Machu Mech". He then sees his Extra Deck lighting up. Yuma remembers that Astral left it for him. He then flashbacks to when Astral tells Yuma that everything is up to him and reminds Yuma about his kattobingu spirit.

Yuma then activates "Gagagarevenge" and revives "Gagaga Magician". He then summons "Flelf" and activates his effect. He sends "Overlay Eater" to his graveyard to increase "Flelf's" level to four. He then overlay "Gagaga Magician" and "Flelf" to Xyz Summon "Number 39: Utopia". Yuma says Astral left him "Utopia" to give Yuma hope. Trey points out that Yuma has 400 LP left but Yuma says that he would still duel if he had 1 LP left. Yuma then activates the second effect of "Gagagarevenge" in which gives "Utopia" 300 ATK for using "Gagaga Magician" as an Overlay unit. Yuma then tells "Utopia" to attack "Machu Mech" with Hope Blade - Twin Blade Shoot. This destroys "Machu Mech".

Trey wonders how can Yuma duel well without Astral. Yuma responds that Astral will always be with him and adds that Trey cannot change that. Trey's crest lights up as he starts his turn. He tributes "Cabrera's Catapult" to summon "Chronomaly Sol Monolith". Trey then changes the level of "Mud Golem" to six by using the effect of "Sol Monolith". He then overlays "Mud Golem" and "Sol Monolith" to Xyz Summon "Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis". Trey then equips a "Number" from his graveyard by the effect of "Chronomaly Atlandis". He chose Machu Mech so "Chronomaly Atlandis'" ATK becomes 5000. Bronk and Caswell is surprised with the amount of ATK it now has. Trey attacks "Utopia" with "Chronomaly Atlandis" but Yuma detaches an Overlay unit from "Utopia" to negate the attack. Trey then activates another effect of "Chronomaly Atlandis", detaching an Overlay unit to halve Yuma's Life Points to 200. Trey says that Yuma won't survive without Astral. He adds that it is over.

Yuma tries to surrender, but Trey refuses to accept it. Yuma's turn is skipped.

Turn 7: Trey
Trey Normal Summons "Chronomaly Mud Golem" (1700/1000). "Mud Golem" attacks "Gogogo Golem", who is not destroyed via its effect, though the effect of "Mud Golem" inflicts piercing damage (Yuma 1700 → 1500). As a "Chronomaly" monster failed to destroy a monster by battle, Trey activates the "Heart of Stone" Quick-Play Spell Card, letting "Mud Golem" attack again. "Mud Golem" attacks and destroys "Gogogo Golem", inflicting piercing damage via its effect (Yuma 1500 → 1300). "Machu Mech" attacks directly, but Yuma activates the effect of the "Gagaga Gardna" in his hand (which also contains "Flelf" and "Overlay Eater"), Special Summoning it (1500/2000) in Attack Position. A replay occurs and "Machu Mech" attacks and destroys "Gagaga Gardna" (Yuma 1300 → 400). Trey activates the effect of "Chronomaly City Babylon", banishing the "Chronomaly Aztec Mask Golem" in his Graveyard to Special Summon "Chronomaly Cabrera Catapult" (0/1800) from his Graveyard in Defense Position.

Turn 8: Yuma
Yuma activates "Gagagarevenge", letting him Special Summon a "Gagaga" monster from his Graveyard in Attack Position. He chooses "Gagaga Magician" (1500/1000), who is then equipped with "Gagagarevenge". Yuma Normal Summons "Flelf" (800/1300). He activates the effect of "Flelf", sending the "Overlay Eater" in his hand to the Graveyard to increase the Level of "Flelf" by that of the sent monster ("Flelf" Level 2 → Level 4). Yuma overlays his two Level 4 monsters to Xyz Summon "Number 39: Utopia" (2500/2000) in Attack Position. As a monster equipped with "Gagagarevenge" was used as an Overlay Unit, the ATK of the Summoned Xyz Monster is increased by 300 ("Utopia" 2500 → 2800). "Utopia" attacks and destroys "Machu Mech" (Trey 2200 → 1800).

Turn 9: Trey
Trey Tributes "Cabrera's Catapult" to Tribute Summon "Chronomaly Sol Monolith" (600/600). Its effect activates, changing the Level of "Mud Golem" to 6. Trey overlays his two Level 6 monsters to Xyz Summon "Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis" (2600/3000) in Attack Position. Its effect activates, letting Trey equip it with a "Number" monster in his Graveyard. He equips it with "Machu Mech" and it gains ATK equal to the ATK of the equipped monster ("Atlandis" 2600 → 5000). "Atlandis" attacks "Utopia", but Yuma activates the effect of "Utopia", detaching an Overlay Unit to negate the attack. Trey activates the effect of "Atlandis", detaching an Overlay Unit to halve Yuma's Life Points (Yuma 400 → 200).
