The Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2008, also abbreviated as WCS 2008, was a Yu-Gi-Oh! Official (OCG) and Trading Card Game (TCG) tournament that was held in Berlin from 9 - 10 August 2008, being the most prestigious and final event of the 2007-2008 season. It was held alongside the Yu-Gi-Oh! Video Game World Championship 2008.
The TCG/OCG tournament was primarily dominated by "Gladiator Beast" and "Lightsworn". Fittingly, these were the only decks left by Top 4. Mazuki Mutsuoka won the tournament, defeating Robert Ackerman in the finals. Takeru Norihama and Claudio Kirchmair came in third and fourth place respectively. Apart from Takeru, who played a "Lightsworn" deck, all of these players were on "Gladiator Beast".[1]
At the Video Game tournament, Su-Hyung Kim won against Emily Fuchs in the finals. The semifinalists were Besnik Kajtazi and Ryo Nakamura. Not much is known about this tournament's metagame, but since the Top 3 players all used "Perfect Circle" decks, this was presumably a very dominant strategy.[2]
