Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is a 2019 remaster of the 2015 game Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist.
Features[]
- Contains the entirety of Legacy of the Duelist, including all previously released DLC, within the base game. This includes content from every series from the original series to Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V, as well as Battle Pack Sealed and Draft gameplay.
- Features new characters and events from the latest animated series Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, with the continued option to take the role as the series' rivals and villains in "Reverse Duels".
- Presents Link Monsters and the New Master Rule to the game.
- Play against Duelists across the world using the Nintendo Online service.
- In March 2020, the game received a free update to implement the April 1 rule revisions. This update also added over 1000 cards and over a dozen new characters originally from later seasons of Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS.
Gameplay[]
- Position of cards now matter due to Link Monsters. Player must manually choose which zone cards are played in.
- The order of cards has changed, in the original Spell Cards were first, then Trap Cards, then Monster Cards. In Link Evolution, it's Monsters, then Spells, then Traps.
Cards[]
- Includes 10,027 cards. Goes up to Ignition Assault, Mystic Fighters, Legendary Duelists: Magical Hero, Structure Deck: Shaddoll Showdown, and Duel Overload.
- Includes more than 10000 cards up to around the release of Structure Deck: Shaddoll Showdown.
- Includes 3 exclusive cards for those who buy the physical copies of the game: Cynet Codec, Micro Coder and Progleo
Campaigns[]
- Includes all previously released Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist content, adjusted with new story scenes.
- Has campaigns for all anime series of Yugioh up to Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS.
- This also expands the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V campaign with full narrative scenes and additional duelists.
- The Tutorial duel now is against The Sledgehammer instead of Gong Strong.
- During the point where you summoned Judge Man and both Pendulum Monsters destroyed in the previous turn, you instead summon only one of the two. This is because of the above-mentioned Pendulum Summon restriction in the New Master Rules.
- The Tutorial duel now is against The Sledgehammer instead of Gong Strong.
- This also expands the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V campaign with full narrative scenes and additional duelists.
Gamemodes[]
- Challenge other players with local-play or Nintendo Switch Online
- Take on the roles of the animated series’ villains with Reverse Duels
- Compete with Battle Packs for Sealed play and Draft play
New Rules/Format[]
- This game uses the New Master Rules, introduced in Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS.
- The Pendulum Zone is now on the Spell/Trap zone.
- You may summon up to six monsters, with the Extra Monster Zone used only by Extra Deck monsters. Each duellist can only use one Extra Monster Zone.
- Prior to the March update, all Extra Deck monsters couldn't be summoned except in this zone or wherever a Link Arrow is pointing.
- After the March update, only Pendulum Monsters that are Pendulum Summoned back to the field from the Extra Deck still retain this restriction.
- Uses the April 2020 Forbidden and Limited List.
- Uses a custom Forbidden and Limited list.
Graphics[]
- Some of the character's Deck lists have changed.
- When sorted by "Duelist" decks are listed in alphabetical order, rather than by their order in the story.
- Monsters have their attack animation play when summoned rather than when attacking.
- Several attack animations have been added or revised.
- Packs have sound effects when opened.
- Some cards use different art, such as the Egyptian Gods.
- All cards in the original game had the Legacy of the Duelist logo in the bottom left corner of the cards. This is no longer the case in Link Evolution, so the cards are now identical their real life counterparts.
Consoles[]
- PS4 version of Link Evolution has a Platinum Trophy. It is the only Yu-Gi-Oh! game to have one.
- There are three new achievements/trophies on both XBOX One and PS4.
Glitches[]
- Checking the card details of a Link Monster will correctly show it as not having a DEF value. However, checking the card details of any non-Link monster and then checking a Link Monster's details again will result in the last-loaded DEF value being shown. This will persist until either a non-Monster Card is checked, or until the game is closed.
- The game (very rarely) may crash when attempting to load one of the 3D cutscenes.
