"A New Breed of a Hero, Part 2", known as "VS Ed (Part 2) - D-Hero of Destiny" in the Japanese version, is the fifty-ninth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. Jaden Yuki continues his duel with Aster Phoenix, with the latter continuing to unveil his "Destiny Heroes".
Summary
Aster Phoenix unveils his Destiny Heroes and Jaden Yuki's Elemental Heroes can't seem to compete. Despite the "Destiny Heroes" relatively low attack points, their effects push Jaden into a corner, as Aster uses "Misfortune" to deal damage while continuing to place Clock Counters on "Clock Tower Prison". On the turn that the fourth Clock Counter is placed, Jaden would be able to deal enough damage to win. However, "Clock Tower Prison" renders Aster immune to damage when it has enough Counters. Jaden plays "Fusion Gate" and because "Clock Tower Prison" was destroyed, Aster can Summon his ultimate monster - Destiny Hero - Dreadmaster", whose attack points are equal to the sum of the attack points of the other "Destiny Heroes" on the Field.
Aster explains his past. His father was a card designer for Industrial Illusions, who designed the "Destiny Heroes" himself. One day, Aster came home to find his father dead (kidnapped in the English version). The person who did it also took one of the "Destiny Hero" cards, which was known to be the most powerful among them. Aster's vigilante activity is centered around stopping crime to find the person who took his father from him, as he would be able to identify them by their possession of the stolen card. His "Dreadmaster" negate the effect of Jaden's "Elemental Hero Thunder Giant" and wins Aster then duel with its attack. Jaden falls to the ground, his cards flying about, and they turn blank as he falls.

- Normal Summons "Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude" (1400/1600) in Attack Position.
- Activates "Diamond Dude's" effect, sending the top card of his Deck to the Graveyard. It is a Normal Spell Card "Misfortune". Since it is a Normal Spell, it will be activated during Aster's next Standby Phase.
- Attacks and destroys "Wroughtweiler" with "Diamond Dude" (Jaden 2200). The effect of the former activates, and Jaden adds "Polymerization" and "Elemental Hero Bubbleman" in his Graveyard to his hand.
- Attacks directly with "Captain Tenacious" (Jaden 1400).
- Sets a card.
Jaden's turn
- During the Standby Phase, a second Clock Counter is placed on "Clock Tower Prison".
- Summons "Elemental Hero Bubbleman" (800/1200) in Attack Position, drawing two cards via its effect.[Notes 1]
- Equips "Bubbleman" with "Bubble Blaster", giving it 800 more attack points.
- Attacks "Captain Tenacious" with "Bubbleman", but Aster activates his face-down "D-Shield", switching "Captain Tenacious" to Defense Position and preventing is destruction in battle.
Aster's turn
- As it has been two turns since "Doom Lord" activated its effect, "Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman" returns to Jaden's Field in Attack Position.
- The effect of the "Misfortune" sent to the Graveyard by the effect of "Diamond Dude" activates. Jaden receive damage equal to half of "Shining Flare Wingman's" attack points (Jaden 150) in exchange for skipping his Battle Phase this turn.
- Activates "Doom Lord's" effect, removing "Shining Flare Wingman" from play.
Jaden's turn
- During the Standby Phase, "Clock Tower Prison" gains a third Clock Counter.
- Attacks and destroys "Doom Lord" with "Bubbleman" (Aster 600).

- Activates the effect of "Diamond Dude" sending the top card of his Deck to the Graveyard. It is the Normal Spell Card "Magical Stone Excavation", so it will be activated during Aster's next Standby Phase.

- Equips "Captain Tenacious" with "Ring of Magnetism", decreasing its attack and defense by 500 but forcing Jaden to target it should he choose attack. With "D-Shield" also equipped, he cannot be destroyed in battle.
Jaden's turn
- During the Standby Phase, a fourth Clock Counter is added to "Clock Tower Prison".
- Activates "Polymerization", fusing "Elemental Hero Wildheart" and "Elemental Hero Necroshade" to Fusion Summon "Elemental Hero Necroid Shaman" (1900/2300) in Attack Position, whose effect activates, destroying "Captain Tenacious" and Special Summoning "Elemental Hero Avian" (1000/1000) from Aster's Graveyard in Attack Position.
- Attacks and destroys "Doom Lord" with "Necroid Shaman", but Aster takes no Battle damage as "Clock Tower Prison" currently has four Clock Counters.

Aster's turn
- As it has been two turns since "Doom Lord" activated its effect, "Shining Flare Wingman" returns to Jaden's Field.
- The effect of the "Magical Stone Excavation" sent to the Gravyard by "Diamond Dude's" effect activates. Aster discards "Fusion Sage" and "Terraforming" to add the "Misfortune" in his Graveyard to his hand.[Notes 2]
- Activates "Misfortune", but Jaden activates "Burial from a Different Dimension", placing the "Elemental Hero Flame Wingman" and "Elemental Hero Sparkman" he has removed from play into the Graveyard. He then chains "De-Fusion", splitting "Shining Flare Wingman" into "Flame Wingman" (2100/1200) and "Sparkman" (1600/1400), both in Attack Position. As "Misfortune" has lost its target, its effect disappears.
Jaden's turn
- Activates "Fusion Gate", destroying "Clock Tower Prison". This activates the effect of the latter and Aster Special Summons "Destiny Hero - Dreadmaster" (?/?) from his Deck in Attack Position. "Dreadmaster's" effect activates, destroying Aster's "Avian" and Special Summoning "Doom Lord" and "Captain Tenacious" from the Graveyard. "Dreadmaster's" attack is equal to the sum of the attacks of all other face-up "Destiny Heroes", so it becomes 2800.
- Uses "Fusion Gate" to fuse "Clayman" and "Sparkman" to Fusion Summon "Elemental Hero Thunder Giant" (2400/1500) in Attack Position.
- Activates "Thunder Giant's" effect to destroy "Diamond Dude", but "Dreadmaster's" negates it.[Notes 3]
Aster's turn
- Attacks and destroys "Thunder Giant" with "Dreadmaster" (Jaden 0).
- Aster wins.
Differences in adaptations
In the Japaense version, Aster's father is killed by the man who steals the card he made. Aster is actually shown to find his body on the floor, with the remaining "Destiny Heroes" scattered around him. In the English version, the body is not there, and Aster states his father was kidnapped.
Errors
- In the dub, when Aster uses "Magical Stone Excavation" to get "Misfortune" back in his hand, the shot of "Misfortune" leaving the Graveyard shows the artwork for "Polymerization" instead.
- Just before Jaden Summons "Elemental Hero Necroid Shaman", a shot of his hand is shown. The "Elemental Hero Necroshade" and "Burial from a Different Dimension" that were originally present are changed to "Terrorking Archfiend" and "Diffusion Wave-Motion" in the English version. Despite this, Jaden immediately activate the effect of the "Necroshade" that should have been in the Graveyard. Later, when "Burial from a Different Dimension" is activated, the English version mistakenly shows the artwork for "The Second Sarcophagus" instead.
- In the dub near the end of the Duel when Aster decries about Dueling to punish wrongdoers, we see a cross-section view of the Dueling arena. Aster at that time has Destiny Heroes "Diamond Dude," "Captain Tenacious," "Doom Lord" and "Dreadmaster" on the field. From this angle all of these monsters except "Captain Tenacious" are visible; "Captain Tenacious" cannot be seen at all.
- As Jaden's Deck falls to the ground and close-up shots of some of the cards are shown, the "Dark Catapulter" present in the Japanese version is changed to "Yellow Gadget" in the dub.

- ↑ In the TCG/OCG, cards activated through "Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude's" effect do not require one to pay any costs associated with them, so Aster would not have had to discard two cards to activate "Magical Stone Excavation".
