"'A New Breed of a Hero, Part 1", known as "VS Edo (First Part) - E-Hero vs. E-Hero" is the fifty-eighth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. It first aired in November 9, 2005 and in the United States on August 28, 2006.
Aster Phoenix challenges Jaden Yuki to a rematch, to test the strength of their Hero Decks in battle, with Aster revealing new "Hero" monsters in his Deck, known as the "Destiny Heroes".
Summary
The card thief.
Aster Phoenix holds a press conference after his defeat of Zane Truesdale in the Pro League. He issues a challenge to Jaden Yuki, knowing that both of them play "Elemental HEROes". He states he'll be coming to Duel Academy tomorrow. Aster meets with his manager, Sartorius. Aster doesn't seem to have any real interest in dueling Jaden, but is doing so once more on Sartorius' advice. Aster arrives that night by skysurfing. Aster thwarts the escape of a man who was robbing Duel Academy's card shop. He appears to be looking for a certain card and when he does not find it, he tosses the man's cards causally on the ground. The Duel begins and Aster Summons "Elemental HERO Shining Phoenix Enforcer" while Jaden Summons "Elemental HERO Shining Flare Wingman". Aster uses a strange Field Spell Card called "Clock Tower Prison", which appears to turn its hands each turn and do nothing else. Aster plays "D - Time" and Special Summons "Destiny HERO - Doom Lord", a monster that no one in the crowd is familiar with. Its effect removes "Shining Flare Wingman" from play.

- Activates "Polymerization", fusing Elemental Heroes "Avian" and "Burstinatrix" from his hand to Fusion Summon "Elemental Hero Flame Wingman" (2100/1200) in Attack Position.
- "Flame Wingman" attacks and destroys "Clayman", with its effect inflicting damage to Aster equal to "Clayman's" original ATK (Aster: 4000 → 3200).
Aster's turn
- Activates his own "Polymerization", fusing his own Elemental Heroes "Avian" and "Burstinatrix" from his hand to Fusion Summon "Elemental Hero Phoenix Enforcer" (2100/1200) in Attack Position.
- "Phoenix Enforcer" attacks "Flame Wingman", with only "Flame Wingman" being destroyed, as "Phoenix Enforcer" cannot be destroyed in battle.
Jaden's turn
- Summons "Elemental Hero Bubbleman" (800/1200) in Attack Position, drawing 2 cards via its effect.[Notes 1]
- Activates "The Warrior Returning Alive", adding "Avian" from his Graveyard to his hand.
- Activates "Polymerization", fusing "Bubbleman" (on the field) with Elemental Heroes "Sparkman" and "Avian" (from his hand) to Fusion Summon "Elemental Hero Tempest" (2800/2800) in Attack Position.
- "Tempest" attacks "Phoenix Enforcer", who is not destroyed in battle, but Aster still receives Battle Damage (Aster: 3200 → 2500).
Aster's turn
- Activates "Polymerization", fusing Elemental Heroes "Phoenix Enforcer" (on the field) and "Sparkman" (from his hand) to Fusion Summon "Elemental Hero Shining Phoenix Enforcer" (2500/2100) in Attack Position.
- "Shining Phoenix Enforcer" gains 300 ATK for each "Elemental Hero" monster in Aster's Graveyard. With 5 in his Graveyard, "Shining Phoenix Enforcer" gains 1500 extra ATK (4000/2100).
- "Shining Phoenix Enforcer" attacks and destroys "Tempest" (Jaden: 4000 → 2800).
- Sets a card.
Jaden's turn
- Activates "Pot of Greed", drawing 2 cards.
- Activates "Miracle Fusion", banishing Elemental Heroes "Flame Wingman" and "Sparkman" from his Graveyard to Fusion Summon "Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman" (2500/2100) in Attack Position.
- "Shining Flare Wingman" gains 300 ATK for every "Elemental Hero" monster in Jaden's Graveyard, and there are 4 (3700/2100).
- Activates "Skyscraper": "Elemental Hero" monsters gain 1000 ATK whenever they attack a stronger opposing monster.
- Equips "Shining Flare Wingman" with "Light Laser": At the end of the Damage Step, "Light Laser" will banish any monster the equipped monster battles.
- "Shining Flare Wingman" attacks "Shining Phoenix Enforcer", with "Skyscraper" giving "Shining Flare Wingman" 1000 more ATK (Aster: 2500 → 1800).
- The effect of "Light Laser" banishes "Shining Phoenix Enforcer".
- Aster activates "D - Time": Since an "Elemental Hero" he controlled left the field, he can add any number of "Destiny Hero" monsters from his Deck to his hand, if their Levels total the Level of the removed "Elemental Hero" monster. He targets Destiny Heroes "Diamond Dude" and "Doom Lord".[Notes 2]
Aster's turn
- Activates "Clock Tower Prison", thus destroying "Skyscraper".
- Summons "Destiny Hero - Doom Lord" (600/800) in Attack Position.
- Once per turn, at the cost of Aster not conducting his Battle Phase, "Doom Lord" can banish 1 of Jaden's monsters for 2 of Aster's turns, but after this effect has resolved, that monster will return to the field in the same Battle Position. "Doom Lord" banishes "Shining Flare Wingman".
- Sets a card.

Differences in adaptations
The English version omits a reference that Misawa makes about Aster Phoenix holding two PhDs.
Mistakes
When Aster's Clayman is destroyed, another one is shown in his hand.
In the dub, when Aster explains that "Shining Phoenix Enforcer" gains ATK for every "Elemental Hero" in the Graveyard, "VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon" is shown in stead of Elemental HERO Phoenix Enforcer.
In the dub, when Jaden is shuffling his Deck in the Ra Yellow dorm, "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning" can be seen in it.
