World Championship

The World Championship logo

The Video Game World Championship was an international, invitational tournament held annually alongside the TCG/OCG World Championship from 2003 to 2011. It was the first virtual Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship, making it the predecessor to Duel Links and Master Duel. At the time, it was the only alternative World Championship.

In 2003, at the inaugural Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship, the Video Game tournament was played on the Game Boy Advance game Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel which had been released about four months prior to the tournament. After this, all subsequent tournaments were played using the annual Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship game series. From 2007 onwards, the platform of choice was the Nintendo DS.

The Video Game World Championship eventually ceased to exist as no new World Championship game was released after 2011.
