Image categories

Is Category:Images/by subject not used anymore? There are a LOT of uncategoriaed card images, and I actually created the ZEXAL category yesterday. Is categorizing images just something that fell by the wayside? Also, what's with the GX cat? Why is it only for card images and only those that don't have OCG/TCG counterparts? Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:13, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

The image categories are something that've been needing review for a long time. The GX category should be broadened to include any GX images, and they all need to use sentence case rather than capitalizing every word (so we need Category:Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime images and Category:Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime images instead of Category:Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL Anime Images and Category:Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Anime Only Card Images).
I'm not sure about Category:Images/by subject. I suppose there's not much reason not to use it, though I must confess I don't care for the name (that's not to say I have any suggestions for better names, though =P ). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:08, August 7, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that GX category is for images of GX anime cards that don't appear in anything else (OCG/TCG/video games etc.)
Category:Images/by subject is one of the ACG synced pages and a lot of old categories were dumped there when clearing out Special:UncategorizedPages, so category names and purposes are inconsistent.
I don't like the name "Images/by subject" either. A lot of the synced images and template categories use subpages. In my opinion, there are many organisational problems with subpages for articles, which apply to categories too. The short summary of most of the problems is the category structure here isn't simple enough to use a consistent set of subpage subcategories.
What do you mean you're not sure about Category:Images/by subject? Is there a problem with it other than its name?
As for categorising more images by their subject: Categorising OCG/TCG card images by subject (rarity, set, language, edition) should be easy enough with Dinoguy's Template:OCG-TCG card image template. How does this look for a category structure? -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:51, August 7, 2011 (UTC)
Me not being sure about the by subject category is more a result of my not having ever put much thought into overall image/file categorization schemes; should I ever start looking at them, I don't want to pigeonhole myself into one particular way when there's maybe a better way to do so (that's not to say I don't think we should use it in the meantime; we already have it in place and being used, and it would (should) be easier to simply switch over in the future if we wanted, then to stop using it now and wait around).
The structure you have there looks pretty interesting. What do you think of having a "[Card] Images by media" parent category for the anime/manga/VG cats (I think we should also have an "Images by card game" category, or the like, for Bandai, DDM, etc. stuff)? Also, "Card images by card"? I've thought about doing that, but it'd be a lot of categories... ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:27, August 8, 2011 (UTC)
One more thought (more just a general note than anything): We should probably start using __NOGALLERY__ on any categories intended to handle images, since the vast majority of ours are fair-use, and we're generally wanting to restrict their inclusion to content namespaces (using the categories as galleries would be nice, but we arguably need a fair-use rationale template for every use, so it gets messy pretty quickly =/ ). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:31, August 8, 2011 (UTC)

Dai Grepher deletion?

I've only recently began using and editing this wiki, so I'm not sure where to direct this suggestion, but after sorting out some Trivia pages for the card "Warrior Dai Grepher", I'd like to suggest the deletion of the page "Warrior Dai Grepher (series)", given that almost all of the information belongs in - and has been added to - the card's own Trivia link, and because it's not so much a card 'series' as one card and a deluge of fictional speculation, especially since three out of the five cards in this 'series' already have their own series page: Dark Lucius.

Headcrab64 (talkcontribs) 02:46, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

I see you've since figured out how to nominate it for deletion. I've commented on the talk page. I didn't have much to add that you haven't already said, but you might find the last link I posted useful since you've been asking about the Master Guide 2 stories. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:57, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Decks For Free Archive Numbers

So, on the Forum:Decks for free!, Archive 10 went under Archive 1, Falzer explained why, and Dinoguy said to ask if you knew how to possibly fix this, if you can't that fine, D-Neos. Thank You. ---Dark Ace SP™ (Talk) 19:20, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

So you're saying make a Manual Archive System, like the one that's on our talk pages? Yours, mine, and Fredcat's, like that? ---Dark Ace SP™ (Talk) 03:45, August 8, 2011 (UTC)
Just a quick question, you can reply on my talk for this one or whatever you feel is easiest. Could I just use

{{Navbox with columns |name = Forum:Decks for free!/Archives |title = Whatever |above = [[User talk:<YourScreenNameHere>|Whatever]] |fullwidth = true ...

, or would I have to follow everything this Article states?, just replacing the User parts with Forum:Decks for free, if I wanted to use this way. ---Dark Ace SP™ (Talk) 04:11, August 8, 2011 (UTC)

Just check Dinoguy's talk for the first part of the message, because I actually like the first idea you had about having it align with when they were created, but I'll make the manual archives as a backup plan. ---Dark Ace SP™ (Talk) 04:13, August 8, 2011 (UTC)

Judge Rulings

The one you post in the Talk Page of Yu-Jo Friendship's Tip Card, it seemed little off with the reference of people; like for explain; "A player has 39 cards in her Main Deck." it sound like if player is only female and never said "their". So that should be report to the Judge Center and have them fixing the whole texts? --FredCat 22:47, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Where it says "A player has 39 cards in her Main Deck.", it's only giving a list of a few example scenarios. It's not covering all possible situations. Using a girl for the example doesn't mean it doesn't apply to boys like how using "39 cards" for the example doesn't mean it doesn't apply to "38 cards". -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:08, August 10, 2011 (UTC)
I see, so that explain is just set to one person; to be specify - one girl - right? --FredCat 23:19, August 10, 2011 (UTC)
Aah yes, the problem of how to refer to a gender-unspecified subject. Using "she"/"her" is a feminism-driven analog to the much older tradition of "he"/"him"; other methods include "they"/"them" (my personal preference), "he/she"/"him/her", "s/he", and "xe"/"hir" (I'm not even joking =( ). Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference, since no matter which one you pick, you're going to offend or confuse someone. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:49, August 10, 2011 (UTC)
I believed you, Dino, for "xe"/"hir" part, as I have seen the latter often in other site - same site that I asked you about that certain word at your own talk page - So I was just to be certain if it was just mistake or it was writing that way. But since D-Neos explained to me about that part; not many duelists have certain number to be same (40 exact cards), so they just put "one" person, accident hit "her" - which bring me to absolute understandable and approve of that Judge Rulings. Due to respect, you both have good explanations that I have missed from before. --FredCat 23:56, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Anime Images

Hey. I've been finding so many Anime images that aren't link to anything. I really don't know anything about anime and I don't know what to do with those. I'm not talking about cards from animes but screenshots from those like This one. Delete them all? List every that i find in some user talk page who can take care of it? Wilimut TalkMail Paris, 20:01, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

I suppose we could make a template that flags images for deletion and after two weeks automatically moves them to the speedy deletion category. That way you would add {{Unused file|date}} to the image, notify the uploader. If two weeks later, nobody has apposed the deletion, it can be deleted on the spot. -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:07, August 12, 2011 (UTC)
If you give me a list, I'll gladly find places to put them or delete them, depending on what they are. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:55, August 13, 2011 (UTC)
Try this. --The Goblin (talkcontribs) 01:00, August 13, 2011 (UTC)
That has card images too, but that's a good thing. In addition to a bunch of character images, there are plenty of anime card images I always assumed we didn't have. We do, but no one put them on the gallery pages. I'll start going through it later tonight and see what I can do. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 01:10, August 13, 2011 (UTC)
Note that images can land in Special:UnusedFiles if they are only used on pages through redirects, which is a good part of the reason I've harped on not using image redirects in the past. ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:27, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

Questions on Talk Pages

Is there anything in the rules against users asking questions on Talk pages? Lately questions have been deleted on sight, such as here and here. The main argument against it seems to be that the Talk pages weren't designed for questions, but I've never seen that argument posted anywhere other than on a Talk page, and I know that other wikis use Talk pages for questions. --Deus Ex Machina 02:57, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

Like on Project:Talk pages#Acceptable usage? There was also a forum discussion before we started cleaning up the talk pages; but I forgot the name for it... -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 03:07, August 13, 2011 (UTC)
It's always been a rule across all Wikia wikis and Wikipedia. It's in every talkheader among them that I'm aware of. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 03:27, August 13, 2011 (UTC)
Actually, Project:Talk pages#Acceptable usage says users asking questions about the subject that they cannot find in the article is allowed. That means questions like "When did Yugi get the Millennium Puzzle?" and 'Can I chain "Mystical Space Typhoon" to "Imperial Order"?' would be acceptable while questions like "Who would win a Duel Yugi or Yusei?" and 'Does anyone else think the 3 "(Cyber) Harpie Lady (1/2/3)" per Deck rule is dumb?' aren't acceptable. Questions about changing the article are obviously acceptable.
However that page was written before this forum discussion. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:11, August 13, 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I forgot about that forum thread. I'll follow that. Thanks for the help, guys. --Deus Ex Machina 22:17, August 15, 2011 (UTC)

Poki Draco

I said it could be a reference to bakugan, because of the dragonoid named Drago. Drago, Draco, what's not to get? Plus they could be mixing the Dra archetype with his name. Mattwo (talkcontribs) 19:17, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

I do get that, but D-Neos don't, so can you please give him a link that he would know what you were meaning for. No offense if you just not give him enough information. --FredCat 19:20, August 14, 2011 (UTC)
"Drago" and "draco" are different words. I don't think it would use one if it's referring to the other. There are loads of things that use the names Drago and Draco (and loads that aren't listed on those Wikipedia pages). I don't see any indication that it's referring to this particular one. I don't think them both being dragons would be an indication since the words "drago" and "draco" are both variations of the word "dragon", so it's not unlikely that anything using those names would be dragon-like.
Also possessive pronouns don't use an apostrophe. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:34, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

clean-up archtype pages?

the archetype pages should be focused more on describing the archetype instead of the playstyle. many pages only have one or a few lines describing the archetype, and one whole portion on the playstyle (example Agent). i suggest moving the playstyle to subpages (such as Infernity/Deck) -Lpoi (talkcontribs) 06:48, August 18, 2011 (UTC)

In the same vein, I think we should confine anime/manga stuff to a separate subsection, with the possible exception being mention of their users in the lead.. TCG players who don't watch the anime probably don't care about it and those that don't play the TCG (you know, just me) don't care about the rest of it. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 16:02, August 18, 2011 (UTC)
Adding a few more paragraphs describing the archetype shouldn't make the page too long to keep on 1 page... is it? -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 00:23, August 19, 2011 (UTC)
I agree with Falzar, I don't see why we should sacrifice gameplay coverage in favor of discussing the archetype itself. Most archetypes are pretty niche anyways, so even with the extra material, they're not going to be very long articles. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:32, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

a page for "Number Holder"

hey delta, I am wondering if you can make a page for "Number Holders" as i am sure there will be more unnamed characters, why not just make 1 page for them similar to the Duel Academy Staff page y'know. So what do you think? 33royward (talkcontribs) 02:32, August 20, 2011 (UTC)

I don't know much about ZEXAL, so I don't really know. But if it is worth an article, I'd say make it more like the Signers and Hirutani's gang articles. The Duel Academy staff article is a list left over from deciding to merge all minor character articles, then deciding to split them up again. -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:32, August 20, 2011 (UTC)

DL09-DL12

Hey just a quick question with the new Duelist League promo style. They are similar to Rare but have four different colors for there card name text. I was wondering what we should name this type of rarity due to the fact that the colors change each set. Maybe some thing like CR for Color Rare but that doesn't solve the multiple versions in each set. I'm just trying to find a way to upload and name all of these different types. Any ideas are welcome. Look234 (talkcontribs) 16:02, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

There was a discussion on this somewhere, but I can't recall where right now. I thought the end result was to use CardNameSETID-LN-RARITY-ED-Colour.jpg. e.g. File:Blackwing-BoratheSpearDL09-EN-R-UE-Red.jpg (Side note: needs the hyphen removed in the card name.) But File:BlueEyesWhiteDragonDL09-EN-RR-UE.jpg is using RR, probably meaning red Rare, for its rarity. I think the first way works better though. It's a bit more flexible and less likely to result in conflicting filenames. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:41, August 21, 2011 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure it's been discussed a couple of times in the forums, and maybe once or twice on user talk pages. I'd also recommend the first method, myself, though (this also parallels how we've decided to handle "Magic" vs. "Spell" versions of very old English cards). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:22, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

Archetype support in relation to Fusion Monsters

Certain pages list any Fusion Monster that is the result of Fusion of monsters from that archetype as being support for that archetype. Such as "Ma'at" being support for both "Kuribohs" and "Darkness". Is there something I'm missing here? Because that seems like very flawed logic to me. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:41, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

My argument excludes cards which ask for archetype members are materials, such as "Vision HERO Trinity". That does count as support. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 02:09, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, that is a case where it should count as support (though personally, I see it more as the archetype supporting the card, but whatever =D ). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:16, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
I'd list them as related, since they're connected to one particular member, but not the series as a whole, which was the original purpose of the archrelated section. -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:52, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

Multiple accounts

Copied from User talk:Shardsilver
Your IP has been using a recently created account as well as editing anonymously to support the changes you're making to the Leo article. You are welcome to argue in favour of how you think the article should be, but please don't create multiple accounts to try and influence the outcome. -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:16, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
You're mistaken. That IP who commented under me on Leo's talk page was not mine. I don't know who's IP adress that was, but I assure you that wasn't mine. Second I can assure you that I have not created any other accounts other than this one (This is my only account, I'm being honest). If you don't believe me, than look at the IP adress numbers (if you can do that) and see if they have the same IP numbers precisely (there are simaler Id numbers, but that does not mean they're from the same account, Like I said, I have not created any other accounts, this is my only one).Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 22:11, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
That's not the IP I was referring to. The one that you've claimed was yours has registered edits from both "Raven whip" and "Shardsilver". -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:54, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
As I told you, "Raven whip" is not my account (seriously I'm not making this up, you say it has registered edits from both, but as I told you, I do not use any other accounts other than this one). What your thinking of is the IP "24.28.27.188" (yes that is my IP adress, I greatly and sincerly apoligize for that, sometimes I forget to log in, so when I edit something, my IP adress shows instead, which I immediatly log in, but I finnaly figured out how to stay logged in all the time by clicking the remember me option). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 23:06, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
I have access to what accounts IPs have been used by and that IP has been used by both you and Raven whip. Having the same IP means you're using the same network. That usually means you're the same person when you're using the same site around the same time. The fact that Raven whip's account was created in the middle of a debate you were having to support you also highly suggests this. -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:24, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
Well I'm telling the truth, that isn't my account (actually I think it is my cousins, we use the same IP adress, because we share the same computer and network, but only I have an account on here, he doesn't know my account name though because I don't want to tell him, and because It is against the rules to share the same account/Adress, however he said he wanted to create an account himself and become part of the wiki, so I think "Raven whip" is his). By any chance is there a way you can change our IPs, or would we both have to have a different network (As wiki law, you can't share the same network/IP adress, but until now, I didn't think we were)? Or would you prefer I tell him to delete his account, and wait until he get's his own computer, and network before re-creating his account (so far he really only has contributed to the discussion on Leo's talk page)? Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 00:00, August 25, 2011 (UTC)
There is no wiki law saying IPs can't be shared. I really don't believe this story about your cousin, but I'd rather not make a huge issue out of this. As long as there's no further abuse from that account, I'm willing to let it slide. -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:46, August 25, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for understanding (I actually just warned him, that next time he makes an account, to tell me first so this doesn't happen again). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 02:26, August 25, 2011 (UTC)

Is it a great idea to have a King of Games before Yugi Muto or not?

Is it a great idea to have a King of Games before Yugi Muto because when Maximillion Pegasus created Duel Monsters, there should be a title for it when there are cards, shouldn't there? If there were a King of Games before Yugi Muto, it would be set in the creation of Domino City, wouldn't it?

I'm pretty sure King of Games applies to all games, and so far, Atem has only lost to one person: Yugi Muto. BF2 Talk Deck Guides 12:38, August 26, 2011 (UTC)
Actually Atem did lose to Raviole as well (sorry if I missspelled his name). I saw your changes to episode 48, and I have a few things I want to ask. First off you said "which she also seen in other places throughout the town, is doing there" (there is a few words missing in there, also the "IS doing there" wasn't needed and didn't make sense), shouldn't it say "which she also has seen in other places throughout the town"? Second another thing I noticed was that you revealed "Schwank" too soon when they had just arrived at the town (at this point in the episode the name was not revealed yet, so saying it too soon spoils it for those who're reading it, and because the name was not even mentioned yet, it is later, but not yet). Everything else I put that you changed (except the overuse of words) was actually said in the translations, which I put back because the characters said those things (though we still need to note dub dialog changes and other things). For example, Luna didn't just plea (she did, but she said "Don't!"), another example is she also did say as she ran after the spirits to please not run away. You also got rid of the "Flashback" as Luna thinks to a previous conversation in the past. Lastly the person Luna recalls was not "Someone", it was "Ancient Fairy Dragon". I'm not trying to argue or anything, but I just thought I'd let you know this. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 00:26, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

I don't really know what our "official" stance on this is, but I personally have no sympathy for people who read plot summaries and then get mad when the summary spoils the story for them (this is largely due to the time I spent on Wikipedia, which has a quite stringent policy on not avoiding spoilers). I'm not saying we shouldn't go out of our way to spoil plot details, but neither should we go out of our way to avoid doing so. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:52, August 27, 2011 (UTC)
You're only quoting the end of the sentence. Verbs usually don't make no sense when you exclude the subject. It said "Luna ponders if in this world things move in the opposite direction and what the staff, which she also seen in other places throughout the town, is doing there." The part between the two commas is just a description of the previous word. You can add or remove "and" items and such descriptions from sentences without breaking grammar rules. This sentence can be shortened to "Luna ponders [...] what the staff [...] is doing there", which makes sense. Although it might have been better had I left the "ponders" as "wonders", but I was trying to find alternatives since "wonder" had been used five times in that paragraph, three times in the paragraph before it and four times over the next three paragraphs. If the sentence is too long to realise what the "is doing there" is referring to, it might be worth splitting into two sentences.
I only linked to the town I didn't mention its name in the visible text, so it doesn't interfere with the context of the article. I don't think its name is a spoiler anyway. The town was mentioned, albeit not by name. When something is mentioned, there should be a link so people can look up further information on it if they want. Shadi and Mokuba weren't mentioned by name in their debut chapters either, but have such important roles in those chapters it would be weird not to link to them. Spoiler wary people shouldn't be clicking any links, since almost any article they go to can have information on later episodes.
Sorry about the "plea" change. I don't mind if you fix that. "Say" was being used a lot. I was trying to find alternatives. I didn't realise "plea" was inaccurate.
I removed the section header. I didn't remove the flashback itself. It was only two sentences and something Luna was remembering while doing something else. I didn't think it think it needed its own subsection.
Apologies on the "Ancient Fairy Dragon" to "someone" change. The sentence after the flashback said "Luna wonders if Ancient Fairy Dragon was the one who had called her". I was assuming you were referring to the flashback when you said that, in which case it would have made more sense to not say who the someone was in the first instance. But as I recall now, she was wondering if it had been AFD calling her in a different instance. It might be worth making that clear. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:12, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

List of Secret Rare cards

Any thoughts or suggestions for the revamp I've started on this list? In particular, if you can think of any ways to improve the lede; also note that once I'm through Booster Packs and reprint sets, I'm going to list promotional sets and the like as well. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:46, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

Wasn't there a template being made for the sets (the part where you input e.g. Hidden Arsenal 3 (HA03-EN009 - SR)); which meant there would be a SMW query that could be used to get all of a particular rarity or set? -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:56, August 27, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, {{Card table set}}. It's unfinished, though, and I'm actually thinking we may want to keep these lists manually maintained after it is finished and deployed (it would be ridiculously cumbersome, I think, to replicate the sort of detail and presentation that I've started with the revamp via SMW queries). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:03, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

King of Games (Message for Boba Fett II)

Is it a great idea to have a King of Games before Yugi Muto? And if there were a King of Games before Yugi Muto, it would be set in the Creation of Domino City?

Ki Di Mon (talkcontribs) 04:07, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

The title never was given to anyone else, although I suppose Seto Kaiba could be a valid King of Games. BF2 Talk Deck Guides 12:10, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

Téa Gardner (card)

Could you tell me where I could find this card, I want to upload a bigger image, but there is no information of the card appearance. Based on the clothes, I could tell this card came from Battle City. I am sorry that it take three years for someone to finally accept your request. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 05:53, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

Téa Gardner (Card)?
-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 05:59, August 28, 2011 (UTC)
I think it appeared some time when Marik was talking about how he was controlling her. -- Deltaneos (talk) 09:59, August 28, 2011 (UTC)
Was this during the time, where he was talking to Yugi, Bakura, or was it his sister. I being looking for it, I need more clue, since there is no information of the appearance. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 22:20, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
Guess I misunderstood your question. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 01:14, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

"You Say - Towards Tomorrow"

Umm, we have two different article for the song. Shouldn't it be merged into one article? -- Aeris Ventaile (talkcontribs) 07:04, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

Concept:Female anime/manga/VG cards

Can you tell me why this concept isn't working right? There should be a lot more than 11 cards there. (or maybe it's a cache thing?) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:42, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

[1] "OR" seems to be broken in concepts on Wikia, but not in non-Wikia wikis iirc. It works in #ask queries though. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:56, August 30, 2011 (UTC)
Oh fun. Guess I'll forget about changing the animangaVG sections on List of female cards to using queries, then (at least for the present). =P ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:03, August 30, 2011 (UTC)
