Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki

The Traditional Format was created as a counterpart to the Advanced Format, since some players, especially those that had been playing for longer, still wanted to play with the "Forbidden" cards. Traditional Format does not have a Forbidden List, instead possessing only Limited and Semi-Limited Lists, with all the Forbidden cards from Advanced Format placed in Limited.

Traditional Format isn't used very often in Regional Tournaments, and not at all in National Tournaments or World Championship Events.

The OCG does not use the Traditional List at all, and all OCG Konami Sanctioned Tournaments exclusively use the Advanced Format.

Retro Format

Retro Format is a "mythical" type of rules based on prohibition and restriction agreements for the latin Yu-Gi-Oh! community since 8 years ago, totally diferent to another formats like Traditional Format or Advanced Format updated to new cards such as tuners, but keeps it his list of restricted and forbidden cards cuz it was not accepted by Konami's people, and anyone can find it on net because its page was deleted in 2008. Is in just the memory of who invented it: veteran players from Latin America.

The old history

The Retro Format is an game format created by a huge group of Latin Americans fans candidates to YWCT 2004 (Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament). Includes its own rules and list of restricted and forbidden cards, which require the player to think more strategically rather than using massive clearance cards like "Heavy Storm" or "Torrential Tribute". It was edited one last time in 2006 to add restricted and forbidden cards from the GX's generation in its list.

Many of the major Latin communities played in this format, even published lists of rules and bans on forums and blogs, but after four years Konami removed all that information after a small group participating in the YWCT 2008, asked to use that format officially in his regional qualifying tournament. Konami declares Retro Format like no-official in February 2008 and months after the "retro revolution" begins. In all officials and no-officials online games veterans players asked for Retro Players. After four years of discussions with Konami Bosses, Retro Format was declared OFFICIAL by Konami in May 2010, but only like a domestic format, that means that would not be used or allowed in official tournaments.

Rules

To improve and streamline the gameplay, fans created simple rules that were

edited last year 2010 with the creation of cards and Xyz Syncros

- Any player can use Syncro or Xyz cards.

- Any player can use card who there are in the Retro list, incluing by another cards effects.

- Bad used cards must be send to the gaveyard or banish and can't be recover, and restricted or forbidden cards used must me removed.

- There is not hand cards limit.

- If a player make cheat, the opponent or opponents can draw one card.

- If, in a team, one player make cheat, the other team or teams can draw two cards.

- If a player or a team make cheat three times, lose by default.
