Name Origin

Any idea where the name Atem came from? Is it from the Egyptian deity Atum? -- Melik el-Al'ab 19:25, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

most likely —This unsigned comment was made by Bothsidesofthecoin (talkcontribs) 19:28, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

The name Atem is actually a variation of Atum. So, you are right.

Merge with Yami Yugi

I think this article should be combined with the Yami Yugi article, as they are the same person/spirit. —This unsigned comment was made by 67.40.169.78 (talkcontribs) 05:12, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Not really. Yami Yugi doesn't really recover his memory until after the Ceremonial Duel. Until then, the fact that he has no memory of his time as the Pharaoh qualifies him to be a separate character. Danny Lilithborne 06:28, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
While I would agree with "67.40.169.78", that he is considered the same character as Yami Yugi, seperate articles for Yugi Muto, Yami Yugi and Pharaoh Atem is the best option. There are three sets of people with different stances on this matter.
  • People who believe Yami is the same character as Yugi. They think Yami should share an article with Yugi, not Atem.
  • People who believe Yami is the same character as Atem. They think Yami should share an article with Atem, not Yugi.
  • People who believe the three are seperate characters.
The first 2 groups would tolerate 3 seperate articles, rather than merge Yami Yugi with the character they don't want. So 3 seperate articles is the closest to satisfying all 3 groups. -- Deltaneos (talk) 13:21, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
It's the same case with Ryo Bakura, Yami Bakura and Zorc Necrophades. -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:18, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
It's a bit more complicated than to say that they actually are separate characters (Yami Yugi/Atem and Yami Bakura/Zorc). I think they qualify as separate characters because the actions they take before they recover their memories are not done with the memories of their ancient selves in mind. As you can read, it's very complicated so the best solution is to simply have separate character articles. Danny Lilithborne 23:27, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
That would mean Atem as he appeared during the Shadow RPG would go on the Yami Yugi page... -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:16, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
I could make an argument for that because it's explicitly stated that what happened during the Shadow RPG is not what really happened. But that would just overcomplicate an already ridiculously complicated issue. Danny Lilithborne 00:52, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
I personally don't think the Yami Yugi page and the Pharaoh Atem page should merge because Yami is a person all by himself, because he has memory's from his time, and The Pharaoh has Memory's from his time. We all know that they have Soul Rooms right? Well, Yugi Muto has his game filled and bright Soul Room, while Yami has a Maze like cold Soul Room, from all his confusing thought's and memory's.
If Atem was to have a Soul Room then his would be one that resembles his bed chamber in Ancient Egypt, with Scrolls, miniature Stone Duel Monster tablets, story's of his childhood, and picture's of his father and friends. Yami is the future version of Atem; his reincarnation. Yugi is his own person. I have no clue if makes any sense.AiKaSaMa (talkcontribs) 22:26, December 29, 2015 (UTC)

They should because they really are the same person —This unsigned comment was made by Dejahnnaw (talkcontribs) 02:38, October 3, 2016 (UTC)

Age

Isn't he 5000 years old as he said "I am I 5000 year old pharaoh." PS: could be 3000 i dont remember --KiumaruHamachi 23:50, December 28, 2009 (UTC)KiumaruHamachi

Him defeating Zorc and getting sealed in the Millennium Puzzle happened approximatly 3000 years before the present day storyline in Yu-Gi-Oh!. The English dub changed this to 5000 years. -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:22, February 10, 2010 (UTC)

How old is Atem?

I know that he died 500 years ago, but how old was he when he died? Does anyone know the answer to this question or is his age at the time of his death unknown? If anyone knows please answer this question: How old was Atem when he died? —This unsigned comment was made by 67.225.96.20 (talkcontribs) 00:17, October 29, 2010‎ (UTC)

He was 15. This is proven by the fact that the Kul Elna massacre happened 15 years before the time they showed us in Ancient Egypt, and he was shown to be an infant looking to be less than a year old. Scheepybird (talkcontribs) 22:30, November 8, 2015 (UTC)
He was 16. Just look on Atem's page.Mistystar31 (talkcontribs) 19:38, December 13, 2015 (UTC)
The character guidebook isn't very accurate when it comes to ages. They said Bakura is 16, though 15 years ago he looked like a child rather than a 1-year-old. Scheepybird (talkcontribs) 19:39, December 13, 2015 (UTC)
Not everyone appears as old as they truly are. Who knows if infant Atem wasn't at least a year old?Mistystar31 (talkcontribs) 21:00, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

Atem/King Tut?

Could Atem be based off King Tut? Not his name, but his stature and yound death? Because when King Tut died he was 18/19 around the same age as Atem, slightly built, like Atem and 5'6 (I think that's his height), like Atem. Also, both death's were surrounded in mystery and both died around three thousand years ago (King Tut died 3,300 years ago) It could be just coincidence, but I thought I might as well mention and ask if we shoulde put a little note or something saying that Atem could be based off King Tut? Just throwing my ideas out there. —This unsigned comment was made by 67.225.96.75 (talkcontribs) 23:04, January 21, 2011‎ (UTC)

Ka?

At the bottom of this article it says that Atem's Ka is the Black Luster Solider. Yes he did become it towards the end of the Millennium World Arc, but that doesn't mean that's his Ka, does it? —This unsigned comment was made by 67.225.96.75 (talkcontribs) 22:24, January 22, 2011‎ (UTC)

Atem and Yugi.

Atem's trying to get Yugi back (this is true in.... nevermind). —This unsigned comment was made by Derpy Sparkle (talkcontribs) 19:58, December 20, 2011‎ (UTC)

Manga

Shouldn't we add a page for Atem in the manga exclusively? We have one for every major character. Scheepybird (talkcontribs) 16:52, September 5, 2015 (UTC)

Merge

I'd like to again bring up the discussion as to why Atem has a separate page than Yami Yugi and by extension a separate page than Dark Yugi (manga). It's the same guy both consciously and from a dramatic perspective. That's at least why I was in no hurry to create the Atem manga page. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:51, December 3, 2015 (UTC)
I'll be honest, I've always thought that was bogus having the pages separated like that. Sanokal K-T (talkcontribs) 22:51, December 3, 2015 (UTC)

Okay, I've tagged all the pages for merging. We can see if anyone else has anything to add to this. -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:40, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

But won't that be like merging Zorc and Yami Bakura? Scheepybird (talkcontribs) 19:28, December 13, 2015 (UTC)
I also thought at first it was a bit odd that Yami Yugi and Pharaoh Atem had different pages (never even looked at his Dark Yugi manga page), but I kind of understand why, despite being the same person, that they have separate pages. First of all, they have different pictures in the front of their articles, since when possessing Yugi he has the same skin color as him, but Atem alone has of course darker Egyptian skin, like the Ishtars; and although he is technically 16, his soul has been in the Millennium Puzzle for at least 3,000 years, changing his "age" on the different articles and how Yami Yugi is only the soul of Atem inside Yugi. Also, much more importantly, their pages talk of their actions, issues, and accomplishments in their separate times of when possessing Yugi, such as defeating Pegasus, or in his memories from childhood to becoming Pharaoh, such as defeating Zorc--Atem's page has his "biography" and even pics of being a young child--that's what seems to make the pages be separate, with their different timelines and problems and victories. Their pages could be merged, but it would take a LOT of work to move things around in order to include everything (everything important and necessary, at least), and have certain pictures, mainly their articles' first pictures and the "design" pics next to specific paragraphs along with the large paragraphs of their different, difficult situations during present-day with Yugi, in both anime and manga, and during his past.Mistystar31 (talkcontribs) 20:49, December 13, 2015 (UTC)
  • Zorc: Talk:Bandit King Bakura#Yami Bakura is Bandit King Bakura and Zorc Necrophades. Wasn't it agreed that Yami Bakura was some sort of mix of Thief Bakura and Zorc, rather than just Zorc?
  • Appearance: People look different in different stages of their life. Lots of characters have changed style, form, clothing. They don't have to all be covered in the infobox image. And he has been referred to as "Atem" while in his modern day appearance and "Yugi" while in his Egyptian appearance.
  • Age: People's age also changes throughout their life. The infobox can note more than one age. The Jack Atlas page currently shows four different ages for different points in his life. The Dark Yugi (manga) page notes both his conscious and actual age.
  • Accomplishments: They're just different stages of his life. It's the same timeline, he had a childhood, battled Thief Bakura, battled Zorc, got sealed in the Puzzle, did stuff with Yugi, including Duelist Kingdom and Battle City, played a game reenacting the moments before he got sealed in the Puzzle, partook in the Ceremonial Battle, passed on to the afterlife.
  • Effort: It's only a concern if nobody is willing to do the work. And the effort is really not that big. The manga page did at one point cover his Ancient Egyptian life. It's just a case of copy pasting it back or undoing one edit. The anime one would require a bit more reorganisation, but is overall not a huge job.
-- Deltaneos (talk) 23:08, December 13, 2015 (UTC)
I know that characters change appearance and also age throughout the series; I was merely giving facts about their separate pages and the differences in them, which makes others think of them as different characters, especially Yami's appearances through Yugi and alone as Atem. I agree that Yami Bakura is a combination of Thief King Bakura and a tiny bit of Zorc; that was agreed. Anyway, go ahead and try to merge the 3 articles; Yami Yugi and Pharaoh Atem are the same person/soul, but remember others think of them as different, just as you wrote yourself in another, previous section about merging the articles above this section. I suppose it wouldn't be too hard, just copy-and-pasting the info and certain pics on the pages into 1 page and then rearranging everything into a good order.Mistystar31 (talkcontribs) 00:13, December 14, 2015 (UTC)
I've merged Pharaoh Atem (manga) with Dark Yugi (manga). Scheepybird (talkcontribs) 20:45, December 15, 2015 (UTC)

It's been more than a year now, should it be merged with Yami Yugi? Scheepybird (talkcontribs) 21:48, March 3, 2017 (UTC)

Atems Birthday Is Wrong

The birthdays are what the creator of said character decides, are you saying Kazuki Takahashi is wrong, are you? That`s like saying your own birthday is wrong despite what your birth records say. And for the record, the reason there are different pages for siad character, is so it is not a cluttered mess, take the Doctor Who wiki for example, if you had all the information for each regeneration on a single page it would be a mess, and the more you scroll down the more likely it would lag. Having seperate pages for different variations helps keep information and the wikis organized.(RealBirthday (talkcontribs) 15:16, August 1, 2020 (UTC))

But that's the same person, just a different name. Much like there are other characters with same persona but different names. Take Bruno for example: he could barely remember who he was until nearly the end of series, where he unveiled himself to be Antimony. Yet we have only one page that covers both content. Energy X 19:43, August 1, 2020 (UTC)
The point of wikis is to have organized spaces for information to read clearly, meaning if the two pages were merged, you`d have to merge all pages on them, whether it`s the anime, manga, the toei series, and the game versions, each with different story lines, and much information on all of them. Also there`s less information on Bruno/Antimony, so of course his page would be shorter and easier to navigate. Every page has been detailed and organized for a very long time, why change it now when the majority knows where any and everything is where it should be? (RealBirthday (talkcontribs) 16:06, August 2, 2020 (UTC)) (RealBirthday (talkcontribs) 06:18, August 2, 2020 (UTC)) (RealBirthday (talkcontribs) 04:51, August 2, 2020 (UTC))
I don't think anyone is saying Kazuki Takahashi is wrong. Rather different people have offered different calendar translations for what he said. Takahashi's word is that Atem was born on "the 19th day of the 3rd month of the harvesting season". Converting that to the Gregorian calendar depends on which calendar Takahashi used.
  • If he used the Coptic calendar, the corresponding Gregorian date would be roughly July 26.
  • If he used the ancient Egyptian civil calendar, the corresponding Gregorian would be roughly June 2.
Since the Coptic calendar was not introduced until long after Atem was pharaoh, it makes sense that he used the civil calendar. Assuming he used the civil calendar also gives all the ancient Egyptian characters birthdays within a few days of their modern-wold counterparts. -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:05, August 4, 2020 (UTC)
Copying the below message from my talk page to here. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:07, August 8, 2020 (UTC)
Uh ok I haven`t tried the talk feature below, and I clicked the talk thing in the Pharaoh Atem discussion page. I would like to point out Mahad is the only Egyptian character on the wiki with a given birthday, even when I looked at both the anime and manga pages for the other Egyptian characters. Also the pictures on the Mana (manga) page aren`t loading. ( Did I do this right?) (RealBirthday (talkcontribs) 22:09, August 7, 2020 (UTC))
The wiki is missing a couple of birthdays from Yu-Gi-Oh! Character Guidebook: Millennium Book. In particular Siamun, Isis, Seto and (Thief) Bakura, whose birthdays roughly align with those of Sugoroku, Ishizu, Kaiba and (Ryo) Bakura.
Another detail we should consider is that the Egyptian calendar did not have leap years, so every few years, it went a little more out of sync with the Gregorian calendar. So converting dates between the two calendars depends on what the year is. If we assume the ancient and modern characters have the exact same birthdays, we should be able to roughly figure out the year the ancient Egyptian events took place.
For example, in the years 1377 B.C. to 1374 B.C., III Shemu 19 (Atem's birthday) was on June 4 (Yugi's birthday). That fits what we know about Atem being from the 18th dynasty of Egypt and living 3 millennia before the series' present-day events. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:07, August 8, 2020 (UTC)
