Wicked God Rename[]
I don't see a reason for it. "Wicked God" is only a series and not an archetype, so we aren't restricted by this. Also, part of this card's romanized JP name, "Mashin", is a portmanteau of "Machina" and "Jashin", which is why the name is currently translated the way it is. I wouldn't be too worried anyways, as this was only the initial fan-made translation. It'll probably get a smoother fan-made translation that doesn't use "Wicked God". --UltimateKuriboh (talk • contribs) 19:13, April 23, 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not really sure about that portmanteau. It sounds really weird that they'd make a portmanteau of an English an a Japanese term, using Kanji on top of it. I think it's just meant to be "Evil God", just like all "(adjective kanji) God" cards in YGO (and there's a lot of those). Regarding the "Wicked God is a series" argument, yes, that's correct, but I don't find it right to call this card a Wicked God when we've had the series being called Wicked God for so long. Besides, the "ma" in "mashin" means "demon" or "evil", I find "evil" an even more appropriate translation than "wicked". LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talk • contribs) 19:21, April 23, 2015 (UTC)
- It uses different kanji to the Wicked Gods (as well as different furigana). Calling the page "Wicked God" implies it has some connection, or even a similar Japanese name to the Wicked Gods, which is not the case. The kanji being used here have mashin as a possible reading, but it also being used as a pun on "machine"; it is almost certainly unrelated to "Jashin". It's usually translated as "Demonic God", "Demonic Deity" or "Devil" (or "Genie" when appropriate) on the Wikia; "Wicked God" is simply an incorrect translation.
