Synchro Material Monsters (シンクロ素材, Shinkuro Sozai) are monsters used for a Synchro Summon, one of which is a Tuner monster. You can also use Synchro Substitute Monsters for Synchro Summoning.
Token Monsters and Trap Monsters (and presumably, Spell Monsters) can be used as Synchro Material Monsters.
If the Synchro Monster requires Synchro Material Monsters of a specific Attribute (like "Hydro Genex"), you can use a monster with multiple Attributes (like "Elemental Mistress Doriado") as a Synchro Material Monster.
Synchro Material Monsters are sent to the Graveyard, not destroyed.
