"Purrely", known as "Purery" (ピュアリィ Pyuaryi) in Japanese version, is an archetype of Fairy monsters introduced in Deck Build Pack: Amazing Defenders.

The name "Purrely" is based on a wordplay of "purr", an onomatopoeia of the sound a pet such as a cat may make when they are pleased, and "purely". This is reflected in the artwork of the "Purrely" monsters, which resemble cats.

The "Purrely" are adorable monsters of unknown but seemingly heavenly origins. They live in a pastel-colored town full of colorful houses and cafes, seen in "Stray Purrely Street", where they live, play, and grow with children as their caretakers.

In their Level 1 stage they seem around 30-40 cm tall, comparable in size to a small cat. "Purrely" appears to have been a stray on the street before being picked up and cared for, while "Purrelyly" appeared one day and seems to enjoy sleeping.

These two monsters become more powerful when they receive a great amount of love, as represented by the Xyz Monsters, the forms they take after being cared for through various ways, as depicted in the "Purrely [...] Memory" Quick-Play Spells. As "Epurrely", they grow in size, and their appearance and personality begin to greatly differ depending on their environment and those who they interacted with: "Purrely" becomes "Epurrely Beauty" when washed and groomed, "Epurrely Happiness" after chasing a ball, and "Epurrely Plump" after eating a huge delicious meal. The equivalent form of "Purrelyly" is Epurrely Noir, keeping its relaxed tendencies.

The "Purrely" eventually grow to a size where the children can ride on their backs, becoming the "Expurrely". "Expurrely Happiness" is the fully matured form of "Purrely" and "Epurrely Happiness", while "Expurrely Noir" is the corresponding form of "Purrelyly" and "Epurrely Noir".

Members[]

The Level 1 Main Deck monsters can add a card from the Deck to the hand when summoned, and they share the effect to Special Summon (treated as an Xyz Summon) a Rank 2 "Epurrely" Xyz Monster from the Extra Deck, attaching to it that "Purrely" monster on the field and the "Memory" Quick-Play Spell listed in that Xyz Monster's effect text.

The "Memory" Quick-Play Spells share a second effect where if their individual effects resolve properly, the player may discard a card of their choice to Special Summon the Level 1 monsters from their Main Deck. They also grant effects when attached to "Purrely" Xyz Monsters as Xyz Materials.

The Rank 2 "Epurrely" Xyz Monsters gain bonus effects if their corresponding "Memory" is attached to them as Xyz Material. They also share a second effect where, up to thrice per turn, they can attach activated further activated "Memory" Quick-Play Spells on the field to themselves as material, with a bonus action available afterwards.

Playing Style[]

The win condition of this beatdown and lockdown hybrid is to field single Xyz Monsters with high ATK / DEF, powerful effects, and high numbers of Xyz Materials. To reflect the design of caring for a companion and watching them grow, a significant number of turns and / or many cards in the player's hand are often committed into an "Expurrely" summon.

The ability for any "Memory" Quick-Play Spell to Special Summon the Level 1 "Purrely" monsters from the Deck gives "Purrely" players great adaptability, as they can discard cards which are unneeded in their current hand or even need to be in the GY for future combos.

The goal of the "Epurrely" monsters is to have 5 or more Xyz Materials, through a combination of their individual effects and their shared effect to attach further activated "Memory" Quick-Play Spells to themselves. Once this has been achieved, the "Expurrely" Rank 7 monsters can then be Xyz Summoned using those "Epurrely" monsters as the sole material, fully empowering them and also inheriting all "Memory" effects from the "Epurrely" monsters used for their summon.

Between the two "Expurrely" monsters, "Expurrely Happiness" embodies the beatdown style, with effects that cripple the opponent's field and inflict Life Point damage to close out the game, while "Expurrely Noir" focuses more on lockdown, protecting itself with its high stats and immunity while interfering with the opponent's game plan by returning their cards to the Deck.
