A Link Monster points to a zone (リンク先 Rinku Saki, lit. "Next to the Link") if that zone is directly adjacent to the tip of the Link Monster's Link Arrow. If a monster occupies such a zone, the Link Monster points to that monster, and the two monsters are linked. If a Link Monster points to a Main Monster Zone, players can Special Summon a monster from their Extra Deck to that zone.
A Link Monster in a Main Monster Zone can never point to a Main Monster Zone on the other side of the field, and a Link Monster in an Extra Monster Zone can never point to the other Extra Monster Zone. This is because Link Monsters can only point to zones that are touching them.
