WCQ 2023

The WCQ logo

The Oceanic Championship, officially referred to as WCQ Oceania, is an annual two-day tournament determining the Oceanic Champion. It was introduced in 2011.

The tournament happens every year in the summer, after all Australian and New Zealand State Championships (pre-2022: National Championships) have taken place. Only players who live within Oceania and have earned an invite at an official Konami event (like a Regional) are allowed to participate in the Oceanic Championship.

The two finalists of the event receive an invite to that year's World Championship.

Interestingly, Oceania was the only TCG region that did not introduce a World Qualifying Points system in 2017, something all other regions (Europe as well as North, Central and South America) did. To this day, players from Oceanic can only earn their World Championship invitation by making it to the finals of the Oceanic Championship.

Currently, only one player, namely Oliver Parle, has managed to win this tournament more than once, being the 2012 and 2015 Champion.
