"Magikey" is an archetype that focuses on using Normal Monsters of different Attributes to special summon Ritual and Extra Deck Monsters that debuted in Dawn of Majesty.
Design[]
Appearance[]
The Extra Deck monsters of this archetype are based on the demons within the Lesser Key of Solomon, an ancient grimoire of demonology.
Etymology[]
The Japanese name is a combination of the kanji for demon/magic ("魔") and key ("鍵") which together form a homophone for "Demon Sword" ("魔剣"). The names of the "Magikey" Ritual Monsters and Extra Deck monsters are derived from the devils belonging to "Solomon's 72 Pillars".
Playing Style[]
"Magikey" Decks revolves around utilizing Normal Monsters of different Attributes to Special Summon Ritual, and Extra Deck Monsters to activate their additional effects. This is achieved through the use of "Magikey Maftea" (for the Ritual and Fusion Monsters) and "Maginificent Magikey Mafteal" (for the Synchro and Xyz Monsters). Each of this Special Summoned monsters are either of Level/Rank of 4 or 8 and are of different Attributes and Types.
Each of the Special Summoned monsters of this archetype have effects that activate when summoned using their summoning method using monsters of different attributes. These effects are based on the attributes of Normal or Magikey Monsters in your graveyard, thus it is important to fill your graveyard with differently-attributed monsters to wide the scope of these effects. The notable exception of this is "Magikey Mechmusket - Batosbuster" whose effect doesn't require it to be summoned using monsters of two separate attributes, due to being a Level 4 Ritual Monsters and therefore unlikely to require two materials.
Each Special Summoned "Magikey" monster also has an effect that grants the owner card advantage, to help minimize the impact running Normal monsters can have. Most of these effects are Only Once per Turn effects.
Magikey Maftea is one of the game's few cards that can either Fusion Summon or Ritual Summon, depending on the owner's needs. If the user also controls a Normal Monster on their field, Magikey Maftea can send 1 Normal Monster from the Deck to the Graveyard as material for the summon. This allows the user to easily fulfil the requirements of the Special Summoned monsters to require materials of different attributes. Magikey Maftea is also searchable with the archetype's Field Spell, Magikey World, which allows the controller to replace any card in their hand with a Magikey Maftea from their deck. With Magikey World also adding a "Magikey" monster from deck to hand upon activation, this allows optimal conditions for the activation of Magikey Maftea.
With the release of Burst of Destiny, Magikey received another main deck monster, Maginificent Magikey Mafteal. This Effect/Tuner monster allows the controller to special summon a Level 4 or lower Normal Monster from your graveyard into defence position, thus setting up to go either into Magikey Fiend - Transfurlmine or Magikey Spirit - Vepartu. If another "Magikey" monster is already on the field, you can also activate this card in hand to Normal Summon/Set another "Magikey" monster this turn, thus extending your plays. There is a noticeable downside to Magnificent Magikey Maftea, however, in that it cannot be used as material for a Synchro or Xyz Summon, unless it is for a "Magikey" monster, thus preventing access to the large pools of Level 8 Synchro monsters and Rank 4 Xyz monsters.

Recommended Cards[]
Due to the large number of Level 4 Normal Monsters this deck runs, cards that support normal monsters are very useful for this deck. Unexpected Dai is a good starter as it allows the summon of any Level 4 or lower Normal monsters from the deck, thus setting up the attributes required to combat your opponent's deck. Piercing the Darkness is especially good in this deck, as it grants additional card draw and increases the offensive power of the Special Summoned Monsters. Necro Fusion and First of the Dragons is also a good fall-back option for this deck, as it is unlikely the opponent uses each of the 6 main attributes, thus allowing the sacrifice of a few monsters to summon this impenetrable wall.
- Clavkiys, the Magikey Skyblaster
- Level 4 Normal Monsters of different attributes
Weaknesses[]
The Egyptian Gods are very effective against "Magikey" decks, due to them having their own unique attribute, DIVINE, not found on any other monster. This makes them mostly immune to the effects of the "Magikey" monsters, as their effects can only affect monsters who share their attributes with Normal or "Magikey" monsters in the graveyard. Although Magikey Unlocking can alter the Gods' attribute when they enter the field, the opponent may not let you use it before the Gods are Summoned.
Cards that either banish cards from the graveyard (such as Soul Release) or prevent them from hitting the graveyard (such as Macro Cosmos) are also effective. This archetype requires Normal and "Magikey" monsters in the graveyard to give the Special Summoned "Magikey" monsters potential targets for their effects. Without monsters in the graveyard, the "Magikey" monsters will be unable to use their effects.
