Valon's challenge[]
Joey, who'd been heading over to the Paradius Inc. building, stumbles upon Tristan and Téa, trying to get away from one of the Orichalcos Soldiers running amok in the city.
Just as Joey turns to fight back, the soldier disappears, and they see that the one who dismissed it is Valon. Joey yells out to him, but he turns and rides away on his motorcycle. Joey picks up another motorcycle abandoned by a fleeing citizen and chases after Valon. However, Valon is much more skilled at driving a motorcycle than Joey is, and the difficulties in keeping up cause Joey to get even angrier than before. Tristan tells Téa to go warn the others while he tries to find Joey.
Re-organizing[]
Meanwhile, Yami Yugi and Kaiba reunite with Mokuba, Duke, Rebecca and Prof. Hawkins, having learned about Paradius and Dartz's identity as the leader of Doma. Their first news is that Joey has already gone off to Paradius Inc and Honda tried to stop him.
The dangers are growing worse, but since Dartz already has the police in his power, Yami Yugi and the others are the only ones who can do anything about it.
Tristan runs after Joey, but he can't find him. Just then, Mai confronts him and demands to know where Joey is. He shoots back that Valon led him away. She just drives off, irritated that Valon got ahead of her.
Clash[]
Deeper in the city, Valon stops in a vacant lot, away from anyone who might interfere. Joey tries to confront him about Mai, but Valon questions his right to ask, as she isn't on Joey's side anymore. Even when Joey says he'll get her back, Valon claims Joey doesn't understand the pain Mai's gone through, but he does. Joey denies that, saying Valon's never fought alongside them, but privately, Joey recalls that Mai said that she willingly chose to fight him.
Valon pushes on anyway, claiming that as long as Joey's around, Mai won't stop suffering. To prevent further suffering, he'll take it on himself to defeat Joey. With that, he prepares to Duel him, and Joey's fist clenches for a second before he takes the challenge, knowing that the other is completely determined.
Joey starts with a basic offense, but Valon starts his Turn by saying that there's nothing but offense in his Deck. He unveils his Armor Deck, summoning five Monsters at once with the same combo he uses in his duel against Rebecca and Duke. These Monsters form a suit of armor that attaches itself to Valon, and he promises to show its full power to his opponent.
In his island temple, Dartz remains unconcerned with outcome of the Duel; no matter who wins, one more soul will be sacrificed to their God.
Valon's Tactics[]
Back at the Duel, Joey wonders how Valon could attack when all of his Monsters have 0 ATK. Valon answers him by attacking with Big Bang Blow, which has the power to Destroy all other Monsters in play. It also deals Damage to Joey, cutting his Life Points nearly in half, and although Valon would have taken the same Damage, he explains that his Active Guard Negated the Damage to him. All his Monsters are then Destroyed, and he ends his Turn.
Joey sees that he has no Cards Set, and when he comments on this, Valon repeats that his Deck has nothing but attack Cards, as opposed to any unnecessary things. He reflects on the fact that he's been that way "ever since I was a brat".
When he was younger, he lived at a church but had a history of fighting others, even groups of larger opponents. Even so, he was cared for and kept somewhat in check by a nun at the church. When a group of thugs arrives to kick out the nun now that their boss has bought the church, she tries to stop them for sake of the children that live there. They ignore this and push her away. Valon rushes up to fight them, but she holds his arm back.
That night, he comes running up to the church with groceries only to find it is on fire - it was unknown if the nun and the other children Valon had lived with escaped or not. He wheels around when he hears the thugs snickering, saying now they won't have to bother knocking the church down. Thinking they were the ones who did it, some minutes later, Valon is in an alley, panting heavily and dropping a pipe as he stands over the thugs' sprawled bodies.
He is arrested, and even in prison, he gets into massive fights with other prisoners and guards. The warden calls him from solitary confinement to offer a way to get out of his sentence. If he wins a series of Duels, he's free.
Without a word, Valon accepts, and he is taken to an island, where he unflinchingly uses the Seal of Orichalcos on other prisoners. When the guards return for him, he has defeated everybody, and Dartz reveals himself to be the one who set up the deal. He accepts Dartz's offer of employment in Doma and the chance to fight stronger opponents, although he warns Dartz that he might end up beating him.
Back in the present, he explains to Joey that what's most important in his life has been gone for a while. He, Rafael and Alister are different from Joey -- they don't have to shoulder burdens. He is able to fight for his own goal, which is victory. Joey considers these words, which he might have agreed with in the past, back when he enjoyed fighting. But after all he's been through, he knows there's more to what he does than just winning, and he says so. He affirms that he won't lose to someone like Valon, and Valon invites him to go ahead and try if he really thinks he can beat him.
Real Fighting[]
Further in the city, the Duel continues. Joey takes advantage of Valon's empty Field by swarming the Field, battering Valon's Life Points below his, but Valon takes the attacks without speaking or even moving to defend himself. Valon then warns Joey not to get too happy after that attack. He expects Joey to use his strongest power, which makes Joey wonder how he can stay so confident at such a disadvantage.
Valon takes his Turn, surprising Joey by reviving his leading Monster. But any worries about another Armor combo are put out of his mind when Valon activates the Seal of Orichalcos.
From a distance, Mai sees the Seal descending from the sky, and she races to its source, knowing what's happening and who's there.
With the magic of the Orichalcos in place, Valon unleashes a new Spell which summons six additional Armor monsters all at once. Seeing their low attack strength, Joey suspects that Valon has new effects prepared.
Sure enough, Buster Knuckle increases its power and Destroys Joey's "Marauding Captain" in one punch. Joey's Life Points fall behind, but at the same time, he clutches his chest and drops to one knee in pain. Valon looks down at him, saying that the Orichalcos magic makes the attack cause real pain to Joey. What was a Duel has now become a true fight between them.
When he ends his Turn, Joey still doesn't stand, and as Valon taunts this, Joey acknowledges that it's a fierce attack, but he won't give up so easily. Valon claims this is because he's too stupid to recognize his power, but Joey insists the winner isn't determined yet, and if a person doesn't think he can win, he's already dead. That's why he always trusts himself and faces his challenges, even if he fails sometimes.
Valon's response to this is to deem it as a thought that Mai can't tolerate. He remembers when Mai came to Dartz for the power to win. When Valon met her after she was accepted, she thanked him for letting her meet Dartz but added that cooperating with someone else would only get in the way of her winning later. Valon sympathized with the drive to win, no matter who is in the way.
But after she beat Pegasus, he noted that she wasn't satisfied with such a simple win. She wanted to beat someone who also had a drive for victory and fear of defeat. Valon claims that Joey doesn't understand such things and how they affect her. Joey admits that he doesn't understand that part of her, but back in Duelist Kingdom, she was the one that pushed him to not give up in his fight to win the finals. She even helped him, so she couldn't be someone who would just win and dismiss others. Just so, she won't be one to help the goals of a group like Doma.
With the goal to bring her back from all of that, Joey pushes on. He brings out one of his high-level fighters, Jinzo, aiming to blast away nearly all of Valon's Life Points.
Valon answers by showing that when an Armor monster is Attacked, he can determine the target. He still has plenty of power left, and Joey's show of force doesn't intimidate him.
The Fierce Battle Keeps On[]
Valon takes his next turn, using another "Armor" monster to attack "Jinzo." It's still weaker, and the head-on collision takes out even more of his Life Points, but the impact also hurts "Jinzo," dropping his strength to a meager fraction.
Joey responds by gathering a new Attack.
"Rocket Warrior" leads the charge, and its effect lets it win a round and escape unscathed. But when he sends "Jinzo" in for another attack, Valon lets fly with a new effect that wipes "Jinzo" out. He then takes his next turn, summoning yet another "Armor" monster to attack "Rocket Warrior". Even though "Buster Pyle" is far weaker, the attack busts the enemy apart with barely enough time to wince, and it sends shockwaves ripping through Joey.
Yelling in agony, Joey catches his breath to learn that "Buster Pyle" destroys any monster it attacks instantly and deals damage at the same time. Valon ends his turn with an Equip Spell, leaving him shaken from the pain that is battering his body. Even so, he knows he must keep fighting. He draws, and he shows that he has gotten his true power: the Claw of Hermos.
Joey begins his turn, Summoning new monsters and then bringing out "Hermos". Valon welcomes this, claiming that when he defeats that power, he'll have the perfect victory. Joey fuses "Hermos" with "Rocket Warrior" to create "Rocket Hermos Cannon", and Valon is taken aback: he wasn't expecting any other monster besides his Armor monsters to have the 'Combination' ability. But he is left without words when the attack becomes a barrage of rockets which cannot be redirected.
One by one, the explosions blast him, and after the echoes and smoke fade away, Valon is sprawled on the ground, bruised and with all his armor destroyed. Joey declares that it's enough damage that he wins, but he stops when he sees that the Seal is not disappearing. To his surprise, Valon laughs a bit and climbs to his feet. He acknowledges that the attack hurt a lot, but there was still the effect of "Active Guard" protecting his Life Points. Joey ends his turn, knowing that at least the Armor Combo is gone.
But Valon still has a trick left. He reveals the Effect of his Spell Card from before: when the equipped monster is destroyed by an enemy's Spell, he can duplicate the effect of that Spell. A copy of "Rocket Hermos Cannon" appears, and he takes his turn, summoning a new "Armor" monster for attacking. He then picks up the copied cannon, eager to try out such a powerful weapon. He attacks, and the first missile strikes Joey's body before the second wipes out his monster and sends him flying back, smashing into the Seal's barrier before dropping to the ground bruised and smoking. Valon ends his turn, so the temporary copy expires, and he taunts Joey at being beaten by his own legendary weapon.
Even before all his Life Points are gone, Joey can't even stand up. With hardly a sound, Joey pushes himself to his feet, slowly straightening up, and Valon wonders if he wants to give up and take a break.
Joey grins and denies the idea, saying that he won't run away. Putting his stance forward again, he raises his faint eyes to Valon and insists he'll keep going to the last minute. Valon wonders at this, thinking how Joey's never been afraid of him, remembering that this is the guy that Mai has emphasized so much. Joey Draws, Sets one card, and ends his turn. Valon sees he didn't Summon any monsters, and he claims it's a pointless struggle -- he'll beat him no matter what Card it is. He takes his turn, strengthening his armor further. He attacks directly, and it connects, sending his opponent reeling back.
But then, Joey begins to glow, and when the light clears, he is wearing his own suit of armor - the Trap card, "Aura Armor," allowing him to survive the attack and gain armor that's on the same level as Valon. But there is one difference: this armor is bound to Joey's life, so if it's destroyed, he loses. With interest, Valon realizes this makes it a contest to see who will be the last one standing.
Joey's next turn lets him gather new cards, and he uses them to combine his armor with the power of his ace monster, "Red-Eyes Black Dragon." In this new form, he gains a high amount of ATK, and he uses it to strike out for maximum damage. At the last second, Valon blocks the attack at the expense of one of his armor pieces. Once again, he's saved himself, but his hands are trembling. Even so, he realizes it's not fear - it's excitement at facing an opponent like none he's faced before. He declares that he's glad to be fighting a Duel like this, and Joey agrees.
Just then, Mai arrives, and she immediately tells Valon off for challenging her rival. She demands that he switch with her, but he refuses, saying he finally understands why she's so drawn to fight Joey. He has something the two of them don't have; a simple and direct passion, one that goes beyond Dueling. With that, he and Joey go back to their Duel.
On Valon's next turn, he uses "Monster Reborn" to revive "Buster Pyle". His opponent cuts off his move by activating "Scapegoat", which seems like a trivial defensive move. But he clarifies that it's not for escaping. Rather, he just fulfilled the conditions for his own effect, which is able to destroy all other monsters on the Field.
His armor burns with power, and he takes flight, lunging at Valon, who refuses to let him make it, counterattacking with "Buster Pyle". The midair collision explodes with a resounding shockwave which clears the field below, and Mai shields her eyes, looking up as a burnt form drops to the ground. Valon lies battered on the ground while Joey lands calmly. As Valon shakily stands up, all of his armor crumbles away, but he insists it's not over yet.
Joey takes his next move and goes for a direct attack, but Valon comes back with a Trap which will let him break apart his opponent's armor and stop the attack. His fist glows with energy, and he strikes out, landing a solid hit to his opponent's midsection which leaves him groaning for breath, then knocks him all the way back across the Field. Prone on the ground, Joey's "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" is extracted from his armor, leaving him on his back, barely able to speak.
Valon gasps for breath as he recovers from the counterattack, and Joey sways to his feet, similarly bruised and weary. Mai looks on, wondering who will win, and knowing that it would only take one more hit to reveal the answer.
At that moment, Joey and Valon are both bruised and gasping for breath, down to only a handful of Life Points each. Joey remarks that he thought he'd had Valon beat with his most recent attack. Valon replies by complimenting Joey as the most tenacious opponent he's ever faced. Mai listens to this, wondering how such a fierce Duel could still have both of them insistent to keep going. Her desire to fight returns, and the Seal appears on her forehead before she winces, suppressing it.
Joey pays half his Life Points to maintain the "Aura Armor", and he places two face-down cards to finish his turn. With Valon's turn, he draws "Phoenix Gravitation", which lets him Summon a new suit of "Armor" monsters from his Graveyard. All at once, he is armed with his strongest weapons. He compliments Joey on getting so far, but it's because of this strength that he must fight back with all his power. Joey agrees, but clarifies that Valon will be the one defeated. He uses both his face-downs to put into play a chosen card from Valon's Graveyard and a random one from his own. The one he chooses from Valon is "Big Bang Blow", and for his own, he closes his eyes in preparation to Draw. Both Duelists have one card in mind, and after a silent wish, Joey picks and holds the card high.
This card is "Claw of Hermos", to Joey's elation and Valon's amazement. Joey immediately fuses his two new cards to create "Big Bang Dragon Blow", commenting that this time, he will be the one using Valon's weapon. Valon laughs, affirming that this is the Duel he's wanted, one to push him to the limits. The time has come for the last attack, which Joey confirms. Both Duelists lunge at each other, fists colliding precisely in an explosion so strong the shockwave knocks Mai off her feet.
From several blocks away, Téa stops running, signaling the others to look. A spiraling white column of light is blasting up to the sky, and Yami sees "Timaeus" glow once again.
At the very center of the energy storm, Joey and Valon struggle for for the upper hand. Both are happy even as they fight, and outside, Mai gets back to her feet and says the duel it look a draw. All of a sudden, Joey gets the advantage by activating the effect of "Big Bang Dragon Blow": by sacrificing his "Red-Eyes Black Dragon", he is able to Destroy all of Valon's monsters and then inflict damage to Valon equal to the total ATK of those monsters. The power of Joey's attack gathers, and with one final yell, Joey sends Valon flying back, all of Valon's armor breaking apart even as he brakes himself to a standing stop. The rest of his Life Points drop to zero, and he admits defeat, dropping to one knee. He turns to Mai, who is very shaken by the outcome, and he tells her not to look like that. No matter who she's thinking of, he believes they'll come back together in the end. Even though she saw the awful side of him and he still lost, he has no regrets. She moves closer to him, stepping within inches of the border. Valon then turns to Joey and leaves Mai in his care. Just after Joey nods to this, Valon slumps to his side, and Mai calls out his name. But he's already unconscious, and the Seal closes in on him, beaming to the sky before leaving his body. Joey then proceeds to sacrifice himself to save Mai.
Notes[]
Due to parallel storylines as well as frequent and extensive flashbacks, this Duel extends over 4 Episodes.
Featured Duel: Joey Wheeler VS. Valon[]
Turn 1: Joey
Joey draws "Alligator's Sword" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1500/1200) in Attack Position.
Turn 2: Valon
Valon draws "Psychic Armor Head" and subsequently Normal Summons it (0/500) in Attack Position. He then activates "Armored Gravitation" to Special Summon "Trap Buster" (0/0), "Big Bang Blow" (0/0), "Over Boost" (0/1000) and "Active Guard" (0/2500) from his Deck in Attack Position. "Big Bang Blow" then attacks "Alligator's Sword". Due to the effect of "Active Guard", Valon takes no damage this turn. "Alligator's Sword" destroys "Big Bang Blow".
Since "Big Bang Blow" was destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard while Valon controlled at least two Armor Monsters, its effect activates, inflicting damage to all players equal to the total combined ATK of their respective monsters (Joey 4000 → 2500). After that happens, the effect of "Big Bang Blow" destroys all monsters on the field.
Turn 3: Joey
Joey draws "Marauding Captain" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1200/400) in Attack Position. Since "Marauding Captain" was Normal Summoned, Joey activates its effect to Special Summon "Battle Warrior" (700/1000) in Attack Position. "Marauding Captain" and "Battle Warrior" attack directly (Valon 4000 → 2800 → 2100).
Turn 4: Valon
Valon draws "The Seal of Orichalcos". On Valon's Standby Phase, he activates the second effect of "Psychic Armor Head" to Special Summon the latter (0/500) from his Graveyard in Attack Position. Valon then activates "The Seal of Orichalcos". From now on, all of Valon's Monsters will receive a 500 ATK boost and the loser of this Duel will lose his soul ("Psychic Armor Head": 0 → 500/500).
Valon then activates "Full Armor Gravitation" to draw ten Cards and Special Summon any Armor monsters he Draws, but any other card he draws will be removed from play. Valon Special Summons "Burning Knuckle" (0 → 500/1000), "Jet Gauntlet" (0 → 500/1500), "Over Boost" (0 → 500/1000), "Active Guard" (0 → 500/2500), "Buster Knuckle" (0 → 500/0), and "Advanced Shield" (1000 → 1500/0) in Attack Position. The four remaining cards Valon drew are removed from play.
Due to the effect of "Buster Knuckle", it gains 200 ATK for each face-up Armor monster Valon controls. There are currently seven ("Buster Knuckle": 500 → 1900/0). "Buster Knuckle" attacks & destroys Joey's "Marauding Captain" (Joey 2500 → 1800). Since only one Armor monster can attack each Turn, Valon ends his turn.
Turn 5: Joey
Joey draws "Jinzo". He then Tributes "Battle Warrior" in order to Tribute Summon "Jinzo" (2400/1500) in Attack Position. "Jinzo" attacks Valon's "Psychic Armor Head", but Valon uses the Attack Deflection effect of his Armor monsters to redirect the attack to "Buster Knuckle". "Jinzo" destroys "Buster Knuckle" (Valon 2100 → 1600).
Turn 6: Valon
Valon draws "Data Brain". Due to the effect of "Burning Knuckle", it gains 200 ATK for each face-up Armor monster Valon controls. There are currently six ("Burning Knuckle": 500 → 1700/1000). "Burning Knuckle" attacks Joey's "Jinzo". "Jinzo" destroys "Burning Knuckle" (Valon 1600 → 900). Since "Burning Knuckle" attacked and was destroyed by battle, its effect activates, allowing Valon to reduce the ATK of "Jinzo" by the ATK of "Burning Knuckle" ("Jinzo": 2400 → 700/1500).
Turn 7: Joey
Joey draws "Rocket Warrior" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1500/1300) in Attack Position. "Rocket Warrior" attacks Valon's "Over Boost", but Valon uses the effect of his Armor monsters to redirect the attack to "Advanced Shield". Due to the effect of "Rocket Warrior", it can't be destroyed by battle when it attacks, so only "Advanced Shield" is destroyed. "Jinzo" attacks Valon's "Jet Gauntlet", but Valon activates the effect of "Jet Gauntlet" to destroy itself and "Jinzo" at the start of the Damage Step without applying damage calculation.
Turn 8: Valon
Valon draws "Buster Pyle" and subsequently Normal Summons it (0 → 500/0) in Attack Position. "Buster Pyle" attacks Joey's "Rocket Warrior". Due to the effect of "Buster Pyle", it is not destroyed and Valon takes no Battle Damage. After damage calculation, the second effect of "Buster Pyle" activates, destroying Joey's "Rocket Warrior" and inflicting 500 damage to Joey (Joey 1800 → 1300).
Valon then activates "Data Brain" and equips the latter to "Psychic Armor Head". Now if "Psychic Armor Head" is destroyed by the effect of a Spell controlled by Joey, Valon can activate "Data Brain" from the Graveyard during his next turn as the Spell Joey used, but if he activates "Data Brain" that way, it will be destroyed during his End Phase.
Turn 9: Joey
Joey draws "The Claw of Hermos". He then Normal Summons "Brigadier of Landstar" (900/1200) in Attack Position. Joey then activates "Monster Reborn" to Special Summon "Rocket Warrior" (1500/1300) from his Graveyard in Attack Position. Joey then activates "The Claw of Hermos" to send the latter and "Rocket Warrior" to the Graveyard and form "Rocket Hermos Cannon", which Joey equips to "Brigadier of Landstar".
Joey then activates the effect of "Rocket Hermos Cannon" to destroy all of Valon's monsters and inflict damage to Valon equal to the total ATK of his monsters. Valon uses the effect of "Active Guard" to prevent him from taking damage this turn before the effect of "Rocket Hermos Cannon" fully resolves. The effect of "Data Brain" then activates, copying Joey's "Rocket Hermos Cannon" and generating a copy of it onto Valon's side of the Field on his next turn. Since Joey activated the effect of "Rocket Hermos Cannon", he can't declare an attack this turn, so he ends his turn.
Turn 10: Valon
Valon draws. On Valon's Standby Phase, he activates the second effect of "Psychic Armor Head" to Special Summon the latter (0 → 500/500) from the Graveyard in Attack Position. Valon then Normal Summons "Burning Knuckle" (0 → 500/1000) in Attack Position. Due to the effect of "Burning Knuckle", it gains 200 ATK for each face-up Armor monster Valon controls. There are currently two ("Burning Knuckle": 500 → 900/1000).
Valon then activates the effect of "Data Brain" to activate the latter card from the Graveyard as the Spell that Joey used to destroy "Psychic Armor Head". The generated copy of "Rocket Hermos Cannon" appears onto Valon's side of the field and Valon equips his copy of "Rocket Hermos Cannon" to "Burning Knuckle". Valon then activates the effect of "Rocket Hermos Cannon" to destroy all of Joey's monsters and inflict damage to Joey equal to the total ATK of his destroyed monsters (Joey 1300 → 400). Since Valon activated the effect of "Rocket Hermos Cannon", he can't declare an attack this turn, so he ends his turn.
On Valon's End Phase, the copy of "Rocket Hermos Cannon" generated by "Data Brain" is destroyed since Valon activated the copy through the effect of "Data Brain".
Turn 11: Joey
Joey draws. He then Sets a Card.
Turn 12: Valon
Valon draws "Black Hole Shield" and subsequently Normal Summons it (0 → 500/0) in Attack Position ("Burning Knuckle": 900 → 1100/0). "Burning Knuckle" attack directly, but Joey activates his face-down "Aura Armor" to pay half his Life Points (Joey 400 → 200), negate the attack, and Special Summon a "Player Token" (?/?) with ATK and DEF values equal to his own Life Points in Attack Position ("Player Token": ? → 200/? → 200). (NOTE: Joey is shown to wear his Player Token's "Aura Armor" as if it were his own armor.) Valon Sets a Card.
Turn 13: Joey
Joey draws and subsequently activates "Roll of Fate" to roll a die. Depending on the result, Joey can draw a number of cards equal to the die result and then send cards from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard equal to the die result. He gets a four, so Joey draws four cards and sends the top four Cards of his Deck to the Graveyard. Joey then activates his "Red-Eyes Transmigration" to Tribute his "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" and "Player Token" from his hand and field in order to Ritual Summon "Lord of the Red" (2400/2000) in Attack Position. (NOTE: Just like with "Aura Armor", Joey wears the armor of "Lord of the Red" as if it were his own armor.)
"Lord of the Red" attacks "Psychic Armor Head", but Valon Tributes "Black Hole Shield" via its own effect to prevent "Psychic Armor Head" from being destroyed and nullify the Battle Damage he would have taken ("Burning Knuckle": 1100 → 900/0). Valon's hand contains "My Body as a Shield" and "Kishido Spirit". Joey then Sets a card ("Scapegoat").
Turn 14: Valon
Valon draws "Monster Reborn" and subsequently activates it to Special Summon "Buster Pyle" (0 → 500/0) from his Graveyard in Attack Position ("Burning Knuckle": 900 → 1100/0). Joey then activates his face-down "Scapegoat" to Special Summon four "Sheep Tokens" (0/0 for all) in Defense Position. Since two Spell Cards have been activated this turn, the effect of "Lord of the Red" activates, destroying all other Monsters on the Field.
Turn 15: Joey
Joey draws. "Lord of the Red" attack directly, but Valon activates his face-down "Extinction Fist" to destroy "Lord of the Red" and Special Summon the monsters used to Ritual Summon it to Joey's side of the field; "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" (2400/2000) and the "Player Token" (200/200) are revived in Attack Position. (Note: In the real game, Token Monsters can't be Special Summoned from the Graveyard since they don't go to the Graveyard when they are removed from the field)
Joey's "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" and "Player Token" have been summoned from the Graveyard to his side of the field via Valon's "Extinction Fist". Since "Player Token" of "Aura Armor" was Special Summoned, Joey must pay half his Life Points (Joey 200 → 100). Joey Sets two Cards.
Turn 16: Valon
Valon draws "Phoenix Gravitation". On Valon's Standby Phase, he activates the second effect of "Psychic Armor Head" to Special Summon the latter (0 → 500/500) from the Graveyard in Attack Position. Valon then activates "Phoenix Gravitation" to Special Summon "Burning Knuckle" (0 → 500/1000), "Jet Gauntlet" (0 → 500/1500), "Over Boost" (0 → 500/1000), and "Active Guard" (0 → 500/2500) from his Graveyard in Attack Position. Due to the effect of "Burning Knuckle", it gains 200 ATK for each face-up Armor monster Valon controls. There are currently five ("Burning Knuckle": 500 → 1500/1000).
Joey activates his face-down "Graverobber" to steal "Big Bang Blow" from Valon's Graveyard and Special Summon it to his side of the field (0/0) in Attack Position. Joey then activates his face-down "Take One Chance" to select one random card from his Graveyard and Special Summon/Activate that card immediately. The card randomly selected from his Graveyard is "The Claw of Hermos". As per the effect of "Take One Chance", Joey activates "Claw of Hermos" to merge the latter card with "Big Bang Blow" and form "Big Bang Dragon Blow", which Joey equips to "Player Token".
"Burning Knuckle" attacks Joey's "Player Token", but Joey activates the effect of "Big Bang Dragon Blow" to destroy Valon's Monsters and inflict damage to Valon equal to the combined ATK of his destroyed monsters (Valon's "Active Guard" is thereby destroyed before damage is dealt, and thus can't be used as Damage prevention) by sacrificing his "Red-Eyes Black Dragon", (Valon 900 → 0).
Joey Wins
