Gravekeeper's Chief ( (はか) (もり) (おさ) Hakamori no Osa) is a character version of the card "Gravekeeper's Chief" who appears in two episodes of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime.

Biography[]

Gravekeeper's Chief and his tribe lived in a ruins-based area of the Duel Monsters Spirit World. Lyman Banner sent Atticus Rhodes to that dimension as a test. Tapping into the power of Nightshroud, Atticus became the first person to defeat the chief. He was gifted with a one half of the Shadow Charm pendant as a result.[1]

Some time later, Banner repeated the process with Jaden Yuki when he encountered the Gravekeeper's Chief and his men. The Chief took Alexis Rhodes, Syrus Truesdale, Chumley Huffington and Banner himself hostage. They were placed at the bottom of the valley in sarcophagi where their heads are the only parts that are not mummified. Jaden and Winged Kuriboh are found by a group of guards and the Gravekeeper's Chief introduces himself. He declares his intention to execute them all by burying them alive, but agrees to pardon them if Jaden can defeat him in a challenge and he revealed a "Gravekeeper" Deck. The sarcophagi would close as Jaden lost Life Points.[2]

While the Chief lost a significant amount of Life Points at the start of the duel, he was somewhat able to put Jaden on guard upon pulling "Necrovalley" to strengthen his Gravekeeper monsters. However, Jaden eventually defeated the chief by using his own cards against him, as he used "Royal Tribute" in an attempt to wipe Jaden's hand of Monster Cards, causing him to discard "Elemental Hero Necroshade" and allowing him to summon "Elemental Hero Bladedge", who destroyed his "Gravekeeper's Curse" and eliminated the last of his Life Points. The Chief was impressed by Jaden's skills and awarded him with the other half of the Shadow Charm pendant, honoring the agreement by pardoning Jaden and his friends. The other tribesmen did not approve of the agreement and wanted to punish Jaden and his friends, ignoring the Chief's attempts to dissaude them. Fortunately, Yasmin stopped the tribe from attacking them and he saw them off, with Yasmin telling them that Winged Kuriboh will be able to lead them out.[1] Later when Jaden duels Atticus who is now with the Shadow Riders, he tells Jaden that he won't go down as easy as the Gravekeeper did.
