Level Eater/Effect If this card is in the Graveyard, you can activate its effect by selecting 1 face-up Level 5 or higher monster you control. Reduce that monster's Level by 1. Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. This card cannot be Tributed except for a Tribute Summon.

The last line "effect except for tribute summon".Tribute summon is considered as normal summon. It means you cannot use level eater as a tribute for syncro summon, because syncro summon is a special summon. But the tips said it can be use. Please make the right rulings for this card's effect. Its easy to summon high level syncro monster by using this card as tribute. ex.Trishula...The Level Eater in this situation serve as replacement to the deducted level of level 5 or highier monster. The odd is, it is not tribute or normal summon but special. Level Eater effect declares only in tribute summon.

Please make clarification about this entry. Thanks —This unsigned comment was made by 112.204.42.177 (talkcontribs) 16:53, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

When you synchro you do not tribute. This effect applies for cards that tribute, but not a tribute summon, like Destiny Hero - Plasma, Lava Golem, Ectoplasmer, and Mass Driver.--Helix-king (talkcontribs) 16:57, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

Normal Summoned is the basic type of Summon, that you only can place 1 monster (as of game mechanic rulings) from your hand to your field into face-up ATK position OR face-down DEF position (as of face-down ATK position is unofficial and not canon, unless Darkness Approaches approved it). Flip Summon is also a Normal Summon, since it can only shift the position while it is on the field, but it don't used up the "Normal Summon" cost. Shift back to DEF is different, since it was put into Defense Position if you don't want to get attacked.
Special Summoned is the advanced type of Summon, though it's free and flexible than Normal Summon, as it can place your monster into ATK, DEF, face-up or face-down in any position, of course, except face-down ATK position. Like I said, "Free" is no cost - not same as to Normal Summoned, that only used once per turn per game mechanic. You can special summon many monsters as possible, like Toon Monsters do that all the times.
So now for "Level Eater" effect, it said to not be Tribute for a Normal Summon/Tribute Summon, which referred to my first paragraph of Summon, but it don't prevent the Special Summon part, which I had referring earlier. Special Summon can included Fusion/Ritual/Synchro and ever Exceed Summon. So be aware of the Summon in future, alright? --FredCat 17:05, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

You missed the point, Fred-o. The OP says that Eater can't be tributed EXCEPT for a tribute summon. But, like Helix said, Synchro Summoning does not involve tributes. Thus, it was a question of game mechanics that could be answered with a couple of small sentences, and did not require those three ego-buffing paragraphs of yours.ChaoticCrosswinds (talkcontribs) 17:17, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

I'm sure it still helped Crosswind, The OP clearly doesn't understand some summoning mechanics, maybe they appreciated it. Remember kids! No one likes a Asshole :D --Helix-king (talkcontribs) 18:26, May 17, 2011 (UTC)
