Scrap Guide[]

By BobaFett2

"Scraps" were introduced in Duelist Revolution. At first, they were a balanced archetype with an extremely powerful and splashable card, "Scrap Dragon". They couldn't benefit from Machine-Type support due to them being Beasts, Winged-Beasts, and other Types. They are all EARTH, allowing for some benefits from other cards, but outside of that, they were a self-supporting archetype. They could do well, perhaps rank in tiers, possibly even beat top-tier decks, with a bit of support from other archetypes.

This changed with Extreme Victory. A powerful new "Scrap" monster, "Scrap Orthros", was introduced. A common trait of the core "Scrap" monsters ("Scrap Goblin" and "Scrap Beast") is that when they are destroyed, they can add another one to your hand from your graveyard. Not only did "Orthros" have this effect, but he facilitated this destruction-you can Special Summon "Scrap Orthros" if you control another "Scrap" monster, at the cost of having to destroy a "Scrap" monster. This results in adding a "Scrap" monster to your hand-namely, "Scrap Chimera", the keystone of "Scrap" tactics.

Pros and Cons[]

Pros[]

Scrap monsters have an amazing boss monster: "Scrap Dragon" is a fantastic card in any deck, and even better in "Scrap" decks.

Scrap decks can recycle cards: "Scrapstorm" and "Scrap Dragon" allow for continual recycling of "Scrap monsters".

Scrap decks have a lot of search power: "Scrapstorm" and "Scrapyard" are both fantastic search cards.

Cons[]

Scrap decks don't have one or two Types: "Scrap" monsters come in a wide number of types.

Without Scrap Chimera, the strategy breaks down: Like "Dragunity", "Scrap" decks are very vulnerable to "Effect Veiler".

Main Cards[]

Monsters[]

  • Scrap Beast: Used with "Scrap Chimera" to Synchro Summon "Scrap Dragon". It also has a self-destruct effect that almost never activates.
  • Scrap Breaker: Works similarly to "Scrap Orthros" albeit being stronger but not a Tuner. It's can be Special Summoned whenever your opponent controls a monster.
  • Scrap Chimera: "Scrap Chimera" Special Summons another "Scrap" Tuner monster, resulting in fast Synchro Summoning. To limit its power, it can't be used in the Synchro Summon of a non "Scrap" monster.* Scrap Goblin: Like "Marshmallon" and "Spirit Reaper", it can't be destroyed by battle. However, if attacked when in face-up Defense Position, it will self-destruct at the end of the Battle Phase, allowing you to add a "Scrap" monster to your hand. It can be used with "Scrap Chimera" to Synchro Summon "Scrap Archfiend".
  • Scrap Golem: Best ran at two-you Special Summon it when "Scrap Dragon" or "Scrap Twin Dragon" is destroyed, then follow up by Special Summoning "Scrap Orthros", "Scrap Beast", or "Scrap Goblin", and Synchro Summon "Scrap Dragon" or "Scrap Twin Dragon". In some decks it's used to Special Summon "Scrap Searcher" to the opponent's side of the field in order to destroy all of their monsters.
  • Scrap Hunter: Allows you to activate the effect of a "Scrap" monster (by destroying it) and send a "Scrap" Tuner to your Graveyard but isn't as effective as "Scrapstorm".
  • Scrap Kong: Generally a card that functions as a secondary "Scrap Orthros". It self-destructs when you Normal Summon it, allowing you to return a "Scrap" monster to your hand.
  • Scrap Mind Reader: It's intended use is to be in Synchro Summoning "Atomic Scrap Dragon" (use its effect on a "Scrap Monster" and Special Summon it and "Scrap Searcher", then Synchro Summon with "Scrap Dragon"), and you can Synchro Summon "Formula Synchron" with it.
  • Scrap Orthros: As explained above, "Scrap Orthros" allows for a lot of returning "Scrap" monsters to your hand.
  • Scrap Recycler: Only a "Scrap" card in name, not in theme.
  • Scrap Searcher: Usually not worth using due to it needing to be in the Graveyard to work (and you need to send "Scrap Golem", "Scrap Beast", and "Scrap Chimera" to your Graveyard first).
  • Scrap Shark: A Level 4 non-Tuner that self-destructs when a Spell, Trap, or Monster Effect activates, allowing you to send a monster to the graveyard. This is a good card to use with Scrap Chimera by sending Scrap Beast to the graveyard and then special summoning it during your next turn.
  • Scrap Soldier: The Level 5 "Scrap" Tuner-a good card to use with the effect of "Scrap Shark" in order to Synchro Summon "Scrap Twin Dragon"
  • Scrap Worm: A Level 2 "Scrap" Tuner which self-destructs after attacking directly (which it can do through its effect). This allows you to add another "Scrap" to your hand.
  • Atomic Scrap Dragon: Since it requires two or more non-Tuners a "Scrap" deck would have a lot of trouble summoning "Atomic Scrap Dragon".
  • Scrap Archfiend: The strongest Level 7 monster, almost as splashable as "Scrap Dragon". It's worth using a few so that you don't run out of useful targets for "Scrap Orthros".
  • Scrap Dragon: The main "Scrap" Synchro Monster and one of the most powerful Level 8 Synchro monsters. Its effect allows you to activate "Scrap" monster's effects while getting rid of one of your opponent's cards. Also, when it's destroyed, you can Special Summon a "Scrap" monster (usually "Scrap Golem").
  • Scrap Twin Dragon: An often used "Scrap" monster that can return your opponent's cards to their owner's hand.Scrap Dragon". It is worth running at least one or two.

Spells[]

  • Scrap Lube: Allows you to special summon one 'Scrap' monster from the grave, but you cannot attack the turn you activate the effect. Good for a first turn Scrap Dragon if you have a Double Summon and Foolish Burial in your deck.
  • Scrap Sheen: Destroys a Scrap monster on the field, giving a boost to attack points of all other monsters on your side, as well as activating the effect of a Scrap monster in the graveyard.
  • Scrapstorm: You can use this in response to your opponent's "Dimensional Prison", "Chaos Sorcerer's" effect, or "Bottomless Trap Hole" in order to avoid the Banishment of your "Scrap" monster as well as sending a "Scrap" monster from your Deck to your Graveyard, possibly adding a "Scrap" monster to your hand, and drawing a card.
  • Scrapyard: You can search for any "Scrap" Tuner-search for a "Scrap Beast" to get it destroyed by battle, or a "Scrap Goblin" as defense for a turn as well as the ability to return "Scrap Chimera" to your hand, or "Scrap Orthros" to activate one of its myriad effects.

Traps[]

  • Scrap Crash: It destroys Face-up Spell and Trap Cards, which, while possibly useful, is overshadowed by "Malevolent Catastrophe" (which is not commonly used).
  • Scrap Rage: Used during the Battle Phase, this card gives a defense position Scrap monster another 2000 DEF and destroys it at the end of the Battle Phase. This card is good to use on a Scrap Goblin.

Other Cards[]

Monsters[]

  • Meklord Emperor Granel: It allows your other monsters to attack but often will have very low attack because of all the different Life Point costs you pay in today's meta. Its Synchro stealing ability is usually worth it.
  • Meklord Emperor Wisel: While you can't attack with any other monsters, it's Spell-negating effect is really, really good and it's Synchro-stealing is also great. In addition to that, you can use "Scrap Dragon" to get rid of your opponent's monsters for direct attacks or just destroy it to get rid of another card. Lastly, it's stable 2500 Attack Points make it more defensible than "Granel" in today's meta.
  • Reborn Tengu: Not only is it great fodder for "Scrap Dragon" but it's also a great Synchro material.

Spells[]

  • Foolish Burial: Almost a staple. Not as effective as "Scrapstorm" but doesn't require you to have a "Scrap" monster to destroy.

Traps[]

  • Call of the Haunted: While not used as much anymore, you can Special Summon "Scrap Golem", Synchro Summon "Scrap Dragon" or "Scrap Twin Dragon" and then destroy "Call of the Haunted" to use their effects. That's advantage.
  • Fiendish Chain: "Fiendish Chain" negates the effect of a monster your opponent controls and prevents it from attacking. You can then destroy "Fiendish Chain" with "Scrap Dragon" later on when it is no longer necessary.
  • Royal Decree: You can lock down your opponent's Trap cards and then destroy "Royal Decree" with "Scrap Dragon's" effect when you need to activate Trap cards again.
  • Safe Zone: "Safe Zone" does a number of things but it can also be used with "Scrap Dragon" to destroy a monster your opponent controls.
  • Widespread Dud: "Widespread Dud" can be used to destroy two face-up attack position monsters your opponent controls if destroyed, comboing with "Scrap Dragon".

Variants[]

"Scrap" decks all share the same core but there are a few distinct variants.

Pure Scraps[]

Pure Scrap decks are entirely made of "Scrap" monsters with a few support cards (such as "Effect Veiler"). These decks make full use of "Scrap Chimera", "Scrap Goblin", "Scrap Orthros", and "Scrap Beast" as well as using one or two "Scrap Golem". The decks are powerful. "Scrap Goblin" is often only used at two, but it's far more effective at three-it self-destructs at the end of the Battle Phase, allowing you to add a "Scrap" monster to your hand as well as being indestructible in battle. "Scrap Golem" is amazingly powerful-after a "Scrap Dragon" or a "Scrap Twin Dragon" you control is destroyed you can Special Summon "Scrap Golem" and on your turn Special Summon a Level 3 or 4 "Scrap" Tuner and Synchro Summon yet another "Scrap Dragon" or "Scrap Twin Dragon". In addition to that, if either is destroyed by having it's Special Summon negated, you still get "Scrap Golem". "Royal Oppression" is also very useful for "Scraps"-while the archetype relies entirely on Special Summoning, you can flip it to negate your opponent's Special Summons and then destroy it for "Scrap Dragon's" effect when you need a Special Summon.

Scraplords and Tengu[]

At a YCS Orlando, a Scraplord deck made it into the top 16. This deck used "Scraps" but also added in "Meklord" monsters and the new "Reborn Tengu". "Meklord Emperors" can be incredibly powerful-when a monster you control is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon them from your hand. In addition to that, they steal Synchro Monsters-some gain power-ups from doing so while others can Special Summon them to their controller's side of the field. "Reborn Tengu", on the other hand, is the perfect "Scrap" fodder-it can be destroyed for "Scrap Dragon's" effect and replaces itself instantly. This combination of cards allowed the deck to do extremely well and has caused the popularity of "Scrap" monsters to rise. Also, if you use "Effect Veiler" you can Synchro Summon "Formula Synchron" which in turn will allow to Synchro Summon "Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier", "Orient Dragon", and "Shooting Star Dragon".

Scrapkeeper's[]

Combining "Scrap" and "Gravekeeper's" may not seem like the best or most logical idea, due to "Necrovalley" shutting down the entire "Scrap" strategy, "Scrapkeeper's" was a decent decktype but the advent of "Reborn Tengu" has made this deck obselete. The deck functioned due to "Gravekeeper's Spy" which Special Summons another Level 4 "Gravekeeper's" monster from your deck. This could be used as tribute fodder for "Scrap Dragon".

Scrapvell[]

Scrapvell makes use of "Flamvell Firedog's" effect as well as a "Rekindling" and "Horn of the Phantom Beast" to gain more advantage. "Horn of the Phantom Beast" will give a Beast-Type or Beast Warrior-Type monster 800 ATK and when it destroys your opponent's monster in battle you get to draw a card. Since it's a Trap card that gives ATK, you can use it during the Damage Step. "Rekindling" is powerful since you can get at least one Level 8 Synchro Summon using it.

Scrap Plants[]

The Plant Synchro Engine is one of the most popular and powerful Synchro engines there is due to it's ability to Synchro Summon "Formula Synchron" consistently as well as make a lot of mid-to-high level Synchro Summons. Combining it with "Scrap" cards allows for faster Synchro Summoning and a greater possibility of drawing the most important "Scrap" cards. In addition, you can use "Debris Dragon" to Special Summon "Scrap Goblin".

Scrapsworn[]

Many decks are made from combining "Lightsworn" cards with other decks. "Scrap" decks do this as well, using "Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter" and "Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress" to destroy cards and send "Scrap" tuner monsters to your Graveyard.
