After reading all of these, you do make an excellent point -dest- , boys are much more interested in it than girls. Furthermore, 65.8.188.127 made me take notice of the negative stigma against female duelist. Personally, I think that this is really sad and it is so stupid too! I have been given “the look” from other people (you know, the look that says “I can’t believe you’re playing Yu-Gi-Oh!”) and with all due respect to these individuals, I DON”T CARE! Each person has their own interest / hobbies and this is mine.

As for responding to --FredCat , .--elementalknight , and BobaFett2; I have yet to encounter a “female” duelist. Maybe I will in the future or maybe not, but I just want to encourage more “females” who are interested in Yu-Gi-Oh! not be embarrassed about it.

Hello ladies and gentlemen! :)

  • I believe in equality and this question has been bothering me for quite some time. Please understand that this query was not posted to be a blog where "men" are better than "women". On the contrary, its purpose is far from it. Although this query was originally specifically geared towards generating responses from "females", "males" may also respond to this query (please specify if you're "male" in this case) too. If you do not want me to know your gender, I respect your decision should you decide to remain ambigious.

Furthermore, I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their feedback regarding this matter, I really appreciate them! :) I'm looking forward to reading the results! :)

Why do "females" feel ashamed to admit that they're duelist?

So why the heck do you have female and male in quotes? And why not use the word MAN and WOMAN? Runer5h (talkcontribs) 15:47, May 15, 2011 (UTC)Runer5h

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  • The reason is that the words "Man" and "Woman" designates a specific age, where the words "Male" and "Female" does not designate any specific age.

I sincerely apologize if there is any "contraversy" or "issue" with the wording. This wasn't my intention, I just chose a word that covered the broad spectrum of ages (boy/girl, teenager, and adult).

You do have a good point, there are a lot of duelists where i go to school at (even though it is a college) and i've only met four people that admit they are a duelist. I realize that this is jus coming from my point of view, and it could just be cause im a guy, but out of thos four i know its pretty even. I guess it's a matter of where you live, but it could just be because they give it up after a while.--elementalknight (talkcontribs) 15:00, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

The reason that I posted this query was because there is someone in my art class (I'm in college) and we had to create an "event" poster. I mentioned the idea of making a tournament poster, throwing the idea around of either...

(1) "Marvel vs Capcom 2" tournament poster

(2) "Yu-Gi-Oh!" tournament poster

Upon mentioning this, she was really interested in the "Yu-Gi-Oh!" poster idea. I asked her if she was "duelist" and she abruptly said "no" and shifted the conversation into another direction. I noticed this, but I didn't decide to return to the subject. You know how you sometimes talk to somebody and something about them (I can't describe it, but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say)is saying "please change the subject, please change the subject, please change the subject...)

I didn't bring this topic up again, but, maybe I'm misinterpreting things; whatever. Hence, this query was eventually posted.

Honestly, I just want to know the answer to this question. I'm not out to make fun of "female" (read the disclaimer before this to understand why I'm using this word) duelist, as a matter of fact, it is to duel them. Yu-Gi-Oh! is for everyone and I just wish that "females" weren't ashamed to admit they are duelist.

I sincerely apologize for ranting on like this. It is May 16th 6:52PM now and I have yet to get a response from a "female". Even if this query doesn't get any "female" responses, at the very least I posted it in hopes to get an answer.

Once again, thank you very much for your assistance regarding this matter, I really appreciate them!  :)

Twice so far, though I am male, I met two females who are brave enough to play Yu-Gi-Oh! And man, they are good at them few years ago, when I was only 15 years old - I am current 23 years old (just turned 23 years old last month) - One of them being my sister (which was at 10 years old, made me think that she started her Pokemon Trainer in Yu-Gi-Oh style) was very well with her PGD deck (all cards that she used base on a pack named Pharaonic Guardian) and official seal me with many Flip Summon effect monsters that I don't complete understand back there. Second female was little older than I was (due to size and feature, I could tell that she's older than I am), she ran a Fire-Attribute Deck, base on burn and Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch. She fought hardest, but 2 out of 3, I managed to destroy her and her combine of "Solar Flare Dragon" easily with what I had knowledge back there. --FredCat 23:04, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

i think that females that like yugioh are more reluctant to admit it because they are judged more than males. i am a male, although my friends and i play i have yet to see a female at my school admit that she likes yugioh 65.8.188.127 (talk) 23:31, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

i'm in a girls school and i'm the only duelist in my class and possibly the whole school(highly likely). but there are some in my class who told me that they have played yugioh the past but don't now. my whole class knows i play yugioh, and i'm not ashamed of it.--202.156.10.14 (talk) 05:36, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

the reason why female don't want to be known as a duelist is... well, I asume it is the same as most of the time someone doesn't want to know others to know something about them: it is not common.

The common image of a girl is surely not to play a card game which is designed mostly for boys. And that is the case here: Main charakter of every show is a boy, the themes are in boys interest most of the time... -dest- (talkcontribs) 10:35, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

yes, but look at the shows - Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monster got Mai, Anzu... GX has Alexis and that bug lady who fell in love with Zane/Kaiser... and 5D's has Aki, Sherry etc. And they all un-shame to show their true color. --FredCat 10:40, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

true, but that doesn't change the fact, that much more boys are interested in this than girls. So you can safely asume, that the whole thing is more targeted towards boys than it is to girls. -dest- (talkcontribs) 10:43, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

At my local Hobby League there is only one female (I suspect that she's in College or is a Senior in High School) and she's quite good at Yugioh.BobaFett2 (talk)
