Flaming Star ( (えん) (せい) Ensei) is an archetype of FIRE Beast-Warrior-Type monsters first introduced in the OCG as Magazine Promotional Cards but from different magazines, and later expanded in Cosmo Blazer. Every "Flaming Star", except "Houshin", "Choraio" and "Chouten" are named after the 108 heroes of Water Margin, the "108 Stars of Destiny", but only 36 "Heavenly Spirits" seem more important than the 72 "Earthly Fiends"; But "Houshin", "Choraio" and "Chouten" are characters from the novel, while the "Flaming Dance" Spell/Trap Cards are named after celestials.

The early monsters are focused in the Summoning of Level 3 FIRE monsters, all with a negative effect. Their effects also indirectly support each other, making their respective Summons easier. The monsters introduced in Cosmo Blazer have swarming effects initiated by sending "Flaming Dance" Spell/Trap Cards to the Graveyard.

Each "Flaming Star" monster has a sort of flame beast. Except "Flaming Star Master - Choten", which is already a flame.

Trivia

  • This archetype is similar to the "Prophecy" archetype due to their reliance on an archetype of Spell and Trap cards. The Prophecy archetype relies on the "Spellbook"" archetype, while the "Flaming Star" archetype relies on the "Flaming Dance" archetype of Spell and Traps.
  • As seen in the artworks, every "Flaming Star" monster has a flame which represents a monster/animal form, except "Choten" who is a flame and doesn't have any monster/animal form.
  • This archetype might be a Beast-Warrior-Type archetype because of their monster artworks. They all have Warriors and Beast next to them.
