Errata are changes to a card's description or effect wording, usually to make the card rulings easier to understand for the players. On rare occasions, an erratum will correct other things such as ATK or Attribute.

Players are not required to own the most recent erratum of a card, however they must always be played as if their text contained the newest erratum even if using an older copy of the card. Konami recommends using the most recent printing of a card, because that text is the most accurate.[1]

As a general rule, any card which is re-released in a booster pack will receive an erratum. This is particularly true of very old cards introduced before Problem-Solving Card Text.

In January 2015, several Forbidden cards including "Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End", "Crush Card Virus" and "Sinister Serpent" received errata in which their effects were completely changed, presumably in order to prevent them from being permanent fixtures on the Forbidden/Limited List.
