An ‘Errata’ is a correction to the text on a card, or in rare instances, characteristics such as ATK or Attribute. If a card has errata, you should always play the card as if it had the corrected text, even though your actual card's text might be older. Errata make cards easier to understand. You should always use the most recent printing of a card, because that text is the most accurate.[1]

There are many reasons why cards have errata:

  • Correcting misspellings.

When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can remove from play 1 other Reptile-Type monster from your Graveyard to Special Summon this card. When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent, place 1 Hyper-Venom Counter on it. When 3 Hyper-Venom Counters are on this card, you win the Duel. Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must first be Special Summoned with "Rise of the Snake Deity" and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways except by its own effect. This card gains 500 ATK for each Reptile-Type monster in your Graveyard. This card cannot be targeted by, and is unaffected by, Spell/Trap effects and other Effect Monsters' effects. When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: You can banish 1 other Reptile-Type monster from your Graveyard; Special Summon this card. When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent: Place 1 Hyper-Venom Counter on it. When 3 Hyper-Venom Counters are on this card, you win the Duel.

It is customary to update the Errata if the card is released in a new reprint set, or as a new promo (Such as with the Champion Packs), but not if existing booster packs are reprinted (Such as when Invasion of Chaos got reprinted and went to IOC-ENXXX).
