The KC Grand Tournament logo (2022)
The Kaiba Corporation Grand Tournament (often abbreviated as KC Grand Tournament or just KCGT) was an annual invitational Duel Links tournament that existed from 2020 to 2022. During these years, no Duel Links World Championship took place due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The KC Grand Tournaments, named after the Kaiba Corporation from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, were meant as digital replacements.
In order to qualify for the KC Grand Tournament, a player had to either win one of the KC Cups of the season or place within the Top 100 of a "Preliminary Tournament" held before the Grand Tournament (essentially the replacement for the World Championship Qualifiers. Additionally, the previous World Champion or KCGT Champion was also invited.
These 105 players would then get to compete in the Grand Tournament, which was further split into two stages. The first stage, lasting a day, followed a Swiss-round tournament style and determined a fixed number of players who would advance to the second stage. In 2022, this was changed slightly as the KC Cup Champions would advance directly to the second stage.
The second stage, which replaced the World Championship for that year, happened on a later day and followed a single-elimination and best-of-3 tournament structure.
