• This card is based on the Greek goddess Tethys, the daughter of Uranus and Gaia. Tethys was a Titaness of subterannean fresh water, and was commonly referenced in classical Greek poetry. Together with her husband Oceanus, she gave birth to the 3,000 fresh water nymphs that inhabit the world.
    • The winged theme of Tethys in this card is likely a reference to an ancient mosaic in which she is draped in a white cloth, and appears to have small bird wings extending out of her left and right temple.
