- Black Corn is made from various corn seed hybrids mixed with sticky rice in China (F1 Hybrid). It's called Hēi Zhēn Zhū (黑珍珠) which is translated as "Black Pearl".
- This card's hull, the underside of the ship, resembles a corn husk, hence the name "Black Corn".
- The name may also be a reference to the Black Pearl from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.
- This cards Number may refer to it being the fifth manga Number card to make a debut, the first four being, "Number 17: Leviathan Dragon", "Number 39: Utopia", "Number 10: Illumiknight" and "Number 20: Giga-Brilliant".
- This card's Number may also partially come from the gō at the end of its Japanese name, sounding like go, Japanese for 5.
- This card is the first "Number" to be revealed only in the manga version of Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL.
- Second being "Number 91: Thunder Spark Dragon" and third being "Number 22: Zombiestein".
- The number 50 can be seen on the right side of the center sail of this card.
- In the anime, "Number 34: Terror-Byte" was the third "Number" Yuma obtains. However, this is the third "Number" he obtains in the manga.
- This is the third Number card Yuma used but in the manga series, in the anime series that was "Number 96: Dark Mist" (which he was forced to do because of "Dark Mist" manipulating Yuma for the former's duel against Bronk Stone).
- This card's effect is similar to "Exploder Dragonwing", except the latter is required to battle in order to activate its effect.
- This card is most commonly used to easily get rid of "Wind-Up Zenmaines". Ironically, its ATK and DEF points are as the ones of Zenmaines, only reversed.
- This monster is featured in the artwork of "Xyz Treasure".
