- Black Corn is made from various corn seed hybrids mixed with sticky rice in China (F1 Hybrid). It's called Hēi Zhēn Zhū (黑珍珠), which is translated as "Black Pearl".
- This card's hull, the underside of the ship, resembles a corn husk, hence the name "Blackship of Corn".
- The name may also be a reference to the Black Pearl from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.
- The Japanese name for this card could be referencing the real-life battleship Kongō.
