After Special Summoning him via his effect, activate "Skill Drain" to counter his second effect.

This card's second effect is useful for stopping the opponent from bringing monsters to your side of the field (ex."Ojama Trio").

You can use cards like "Gilasaurus", "Triggered Summon" and "The Shallow Grave" to have your opponent Special Summon a monster in order to trigger "Phantom Dragon's" effect.

Since many Zombie monsters can be special summoned from the graveyard, this card could be used as a defense against them.

Give this card to your opponent with "Creature Swap", then use "Burden of the Mighty" to leave your opponent with only a 1500 ATK monster and two unusable Monster Card Zones.

As a Level 8 monster that can hit the field with relative ease, this card can serve as a suitable Xyz Material for a Rank 8 Monster.
