• Due to the fact that trap cards and quickplay spell cards can be activated during the draw phase, but only after the player has drawn their mandatory card, it is possible to use cards like Reckless Greed to draw cards that might work with this card's effect during the draw phase.
  • This card works well in an Exodia Deck. A build of this concept could include:
    • 3 Heart of the Underdog
    • 5 Exodia pieces
    • 3 Reload
    • 3 Hand Destruction
    • 0-3 Monster Recovery
    • 23-26 Normal Monsters
This way, if you play your "Heart of the Underdog" card(s), you will continuously draw Normal Monsters during your Draw Phase until you get "Exodia the Forbidden One" (an Effect Monster), or another "Heart of the Underdog", or until you get all 5 pieces and win. If you draw a Quick-Play Spell Card (or have one in your hand when you draw one of the above cards), you can activate it immediately, and very likely draw another Normal Monster with its effect.
      • As an additional note to "Exodia" decks using this card, you could add an "Exodius the Ultimate Forbidden Lord", so that when you discard cards from your hand during your End Phase, you can power his attack up for an OTK.
      • If you desire to keep the cards in your hand, the card "Infinite Cards" removes the hand size limit.
      • This card works well when combined with "Scrubbed Raid" or "Wall of Revealing Light", as these will stall until you can assemble the 5 pieces of Exodia.
      • You can choose to put only 1 copy of this card in this Deck, but it will be more difficult find it if you want to have all Normal Monsters in order to make a single continuous loop of draws for a sure win. If you put 2 or 3, copies it will be easier to find them, but the loop could be suddenly interrupted if you get another copy while you're drawing continuously. Remember, with more than 1 on the field, the effects stack.
      • See Exodia OTK and this card's rulings page for more details.
  • Another idea is to take advantage of your Draw Phase. During this time, you can Draw like regular and activate this card's effect. Then when you are done drawing (due to drawing a non-Normal Monster card), you can activate a card that ends with you drawing such as the quick play "Reload" or traps that let you draw such as "Jar of Greed" or "Legacy of Yata-Garasu". As long as the Last thing to occur is you drawing a Normal Monster, you may activate this card's effect.
  • You can even use multiples of this card to increase the amount of cards you draw each time you end with a Normal Monster because it will only need the last card to be a Normal Monster to activate all of their effects again.
  • This card works well with "Final Destiny" in a Normal Monster Deck, as it can allow the player to get the required number of cards to clear the field and still have cards left over to use.
  • This card in a deck with a majority of Normal Monsters would go well with "Solemn Wishes", which gains you 500 LP every time you draw a card. Decks with a majority of Normal Monsters (like the "Exodia" one listed above) usually do not fare well in duels in terms of actually using and battling with your monsters, so this combo recovers some of the damage dealt by your opponent.
