OCG Rulings[]
- The "Once per turn: You can target 1 monster you control that attacked this turn; change that target to Defense Position." effect is an Ignition Effect. (It targets 1 Attack Position monster that attacked this turn. If "Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise" attacked, you can also target this card itself.)[1]
- This effect can only be activated during your Main Phase 2. It cannot be activated if all monsters that attacked this turn are in Defense Position.[1]
Crystal Beast Monsters Rulings[]
OCG Rulings
- The "If this face-up card is destroyed while it is in a Monster Card Zone, you can place it face-up in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell Card, instead of sending it to the Graveyard." effect is not an Ignition, Trigger, Quick or Continuous Effect. (It can be applied during the Damage Step.)[2][3][4][1][5][6][7]
- This effect cannot be applied if this card is destroyed by "Dark Hole" while it is in face-down Defense Position.[2][3][4][1][5][6][7]
- If "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is destroyed while "Skill Drain" is active, the effect of "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is negated so you cannot treat it as a Continuous Spell Card and place it in your Spell & Trap Zone.[8]
- If "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is destroyed by battle with "Mystical Beast of Serket", it is banished and you cannot place it in your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell Card.[9]
- While "Crystal Beast Amethyst Cat" is in the Spell & Trap Zone, it is not treated as a Beast-Type monster, so you cannot send it to the Graveyard for "Manticore of Darkness".[10]
- For cards which destroy and banish other cards, like "Bottomless Trap Hole" and "Gandora the Dragon of Destruction", the destruction and the banishing are part of the same effect. If "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is destroyed by such an effect, you cannot place it in your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell Card, since you would need to apply the effect after "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is destroyed but before it is banished.[11]
- If "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is in your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell Card, it can be sent to the Graveyard to Special Summon "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" or "Anteatereatingant".[12]
- If the effect of "Banisher of the Light", "Banisher of the Radiance", "Macro Cosmos", "Dimensional Fissure" is active, when a "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is destroyed you can place it in your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell Card. If you choose not to do so, "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is banished.[13]
- If "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is destroyed by battle, you can place it in your Spell & Trap Zone. You apply the effect at the same time that "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" would be sent to the Graveyard, and you do not send it to the Graveyard.[14]
- When "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is destroyed, the controller can apply the effect. If your "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" is controlled by your opponent, your opponent can place it in his Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell Card.[15]
- The effect of placing "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell Card is applied by the controller when resolving the effect that destroys it. It is placed directly in the Spell & Trap Card Zone from the field, and not sent to the Graveyard first. This effect does not start a Chain Link.[16]
- If multiple "Crystal Beast" cards are placed in your Spell & Trap Zone simultaneously, "Crystal Tree" only gains 1 Crystal Counter.[17]
- The effect of "Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus" that places itself on the Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell Card does not start a Chain Link, so it does not activate. Therefore, even if "Advanced Dark" is treating "Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus" as a DARK monster and "Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror" is active, the effect of "Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus" is not negated and it can be placed in the Spell & Trap Zone.[18]
Previously Official Rulings[]
![]() | These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been deemed unofficial by Konami.[19] They were previously considered official, but may or may not necessarily hold true nowadays. |
- You choose whether or not to use the “Crystal Beast” effect at the time the destroyed monster would be sent to the Graveyard.[20][Notes 1]
- This effect cannot be used if a “Crystal Beast” monster is destroyed by a card effect while face-down.[20]
- If multiple “Crystal Beast” monsters are destroyed at the same time, and you do not have enough open Spell & Trap Card Zones to place them all in as Continuous Spell Cards, you choose which (if any) to place in your Spell & Trap Card Zone.[20]
- If your opponent controls one of your “Crystal Beast” monsters and it is destroyed, your opponent can choose to place it in their Spell & Trap Card Zone. If they choose not to, it is sent to your Graveyard.[20][Notes 2]
- If "Macro Cosmos" or "Banisher of the Light" is active on the field when a "Crystal Beast" monster is destroyed, you can use its effect and still place it in your Spell & Trap Card Zone.[20]
- If a "Crystal Beast" battles with a monster such as "Dark Magician of Chaos" or "D.D. Warrior" it will be removed from play by that monster's effect, you cannot activate your "Crystal Beast's" effect.[20]
- If a "Crystal Beast" is destroyed by "Bottomless Trap Hole" it will be removed from play and you cannot activate its effect.[20]
- While "Skill Drain" is active on the field, a "Crystal Beast" monster that is destroyed will be sent to the Graveyard and cannot be put in the Spell & Trap Card Zone.[20]
- If you control a "Crystal Beast" equipped with "Premature Burial" and have no open Spell & Trap Card Zones, when that "Crystal Beast" is destroyed "Premature Burial" is also destroyed and then you can choose to put that "Crystal Beast" into the now empty Zone.[20]
- If "Dimensional Fissure" is active on the field when a "Crystal Beast" that was being treated as a Continuous Spell Card card [sic] is sent to the Graveyard, it will not be removed from play, because it was treated as a Spell and not a monster.[20][Notes 3]
- You can use a "Crystal Beast" that is being treated as a Continuous Spell Card for the cost to Special Summon "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" or "Anteatereatingant".[20][Notes 4]
