- In the anime, this card's effect allowed the controller to Special Summon an "Ivy Token" to the opponent's field when it was selected as an attack target, instead of as a Flip Effect. This is because monster cards were rarely played face-down prior to Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL.
- In episode 16, Akiza Izinski uses this card during her Ground Duel against Gill Randsborg. After she summons this card, she activates "Seed of Deception" to Special Summon "Copy Plant". She then activates the effect of "Copy Plant" to make its Level the same as the Level of "Masked Knight LV5". Since the latter was Level 5, the Level of "Copy Plant" becomes 5. Akiza then tunes this card with "Copy Plant" in order to Synchro Summon "Black Rose Dragon". On the final turn of the Duel, Akiza banishes this card from her Graveyard in order to activate the second effect of "Black Rose Dragon".

Later "Speed Warrior" (whose ATK was 1800 due to its own effect) attacks this card, but this activates this card's effect, Special Summoning an "Ivy Token" to Yusei's side of the field. "Speed Warrior" then destroys this card. On Akiza's next turn, she activates "Cursed Ivy" to revive this card. Later "Turret Warrior" (whose ATK was 2100 due to its own effect) attacks this card, but this activates this card's effect, Special Summoning an "Ivy Token" to Yusei's side of the field. "Turret Warrior" then destroys this card. Since "Cursed Ivy" was destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, its third effect Special Summons two Ivy Tokens onto Yusei's side of the field. Later "Rose Tentacles" attacks and destroys all four Ivy Tokens. Since all four tokens were destroyed, Yusei takes 1200 damage (300 for every Token destroyed). "Rose Tentacles" then inflicts 1200 damage to Yusei due to its second effect (300 for every Plant-type monster it destroyed). In the next episode, Akiza banishes this card from her Graveyard in order to activate the second effect of "Black Rose Dragon".
