This card's anime lore was "This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Tributing 2 Level 6 or higher Spellcaster-Type monsters on your side of the field. While this card is face-up on the field, you can negate the activation of Trap Cards, and destroy them, also, as long as this card is face-up on the field decrease the ATK of all monsters on your opponent's side of the field by an amount equal to the number of Spellcaster-Type monsters in your Graveyard x 500.".

In Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light the Pharoah Tributed Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl to summon Sorcerer of Dark Magic. His special ability allowed him to lower Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon's ATK by 500 for each "Magician" in his Graveyard (Note: In the OCG/TCG, Sorcerer of Dark Magic does not have this effect). With Dark Magician, Dark Magician Girl and Magician's Valkyria all in the Graveyard, this added up to 1500. Yugi had Sorcerer of Dark Magic destroy Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, and then proceeded to attack Peten the Dark Clown. Kaiba tried to activate Deck Destruction Virus again but Sorcerer of Dark Magic's special ability prevented it. Kaiba then played Monster Reborn to revive Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and Tributed it to summon Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon. Yugi attempted to lower it's ATK also, but Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon's special ability prevented it. Kaiba attacked with Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon, destroying Sorcerer of Dark Magic.

Sorcerer of Dark Magic had an ability that lowered the ATK of one of the opponent's monsters by 500 for each Spellcaster-Type monster in the controllers Graveyard.

The attack of this card is named "Celestial Black Burning" 「セレスチアル･ブラック･バーニング」.
