  • In episode 40, Yusei Fudo sets this card during his Ground Duel with Akiza Izinski. In the next episode, "Black Rose Dragon" (whose ATK was 3000 due to "Thorn of Malice") attacks "Shield Warrior" (whose ATK was 0 due to the second effect of "Black Rose Dragon"), but Yusei activates this card to switch "Shield Warrior" to Defense Position. Due to the third effect of "Thorn of Malice", "Shield Warrior" is not destroyed, but "Black Rose Dragon" inflicts piercing damage to Yusei. After damage calculation, "Thorn of Malice" decreases the ATK and DEF of "Shield Warrior" by 600.
