A Barian is a being that originated from the Barian World, which is world of energy in Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime.
The denizens of the Barian World have a feud with those in the Astral World and seek to destroy it. One Barian, Misael, specified that if they do not, then their own world will have "no future".[1]
Physically, Barians appear as red, fiery, energy beings.[2] However, they often hide their forms even in their own world, instead wearing concealing cloaks of various colors and adorning their faces with masks.[3]
Led by the Seven Barian Lords, the Barians wish to gather the "Numbers" and destroy the Astral World. They cannot gather the "Numbers" themselves, so they manipulated or exploited humans such as Dr. Faker and Vetrix to complete their agenda.[3] They are able to circumvent this restriction through the use of a device called a Barian's Sphere Cube.[4]

When their human pawns and Vector were defeated, Durbe determined they would have to intervene directly. To that end, he sent Gilag to Earth.[3] On Earth, Barians can take human form, though they do not decide what they look like and are unable to wield "Chaos Xyz" monsters.[1] Gilag and Alit arrived on Earth through portals.[3][1] Misael's arrival was via a giant energy ball crashing into a forest, causing a deep crater.[4]
