Ashened is an TCG-exclusive archetype introduced in Phantom Nightmare. The archetype consists of DARK attribute Pyro Effect Monsters that Special Summon themselves from the hand when the Field Spell "Obsidim, the Ashened City" is present. These monsters have effects centered around "Veidos the Eruption Dragon of Extinction" and its aspects: ATK, Type or Attribute.

Design[]

The Ashened archetype seem to be based off of the destruction of Pompeii with visual elements based off the Dark Souls series, especially the second DLC for Dark Souls 3 The Ringed City. Obsidim being a stand in for both the city of Pompeii and the Ringed City and "Veidos the Eruption Dragon of Extinction" being the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and Darkeater Midir.

Playing style[]

The Ashened archetype's current strategy is to search and play Obsidim to special summon Ashened monsters onto the field: the Hero, the King and the Priestess. The Ashened Field Spell "Obsidim, the Ashened City" is supported by the Quick-Play Spell "Awakening of Veidos". The deck's boss monster "Veidos the Eruption Dragon of Extinction" will destroy a field spell and special summon itself to the opponents field and set the Continuous Trap "Ashened for Eternity" or "Ashened to Endlessness". The player can either steal back Veidos for a boss monster and lowering all opponent's monster's ATK by 2800 with "Ashened for Eternity", destroy Veidos to apply a "Dark Hole" like effect onto the whole field, or fuse with "Ashened to Endlessness" for the Fusion Monster. Its Fusion Monster equivalent "Veidos the Dragon of Endless Darkness" can destroy all Spells and Traps on the opponent's field when fusion summoned, and can destroy any activated card or effect's card in response once per turn (sends 1 face-up Ashened card to the GY). "Embers of the Ashened" can retrieve an "Obsidim" from the GY.

However, because of Ashened monsters can Special Summon from the hand, cards that target this summoning mechanic can potentially restrain this archetype deck, such as "Summon Limit" or "Non Aggression Area".

Recommended cards[]

"Super Polymerization": With the effect of "Obsidim, the Ashened City" you can fuse opponent's monsters (and Veidos if summoned on their side) for Embers or Veidos. (Would recommend to summon on your turn to Chain 1 and 2 "Veidos the Eruption Dragon of Extinction" Dark hole and then "Veidos the Dragon of Endless Darkness" in either order.)

"Kaiju" archetype Monster Cards: You can steal them back with "Ashened for Eternity"

"Bonding" archetype: Partially supports "Obsidim, the Ashened City" through the Pyro type.

"Infernal Flame Banshee": Allows a search for 1 Pyro monster from the deck into either the hand or GY.

"Agnimal Candle": Opens up Synchro plays for the extra deck. Can be searched with "Infernal Flame Banshee".
