"Ancient Gear", known as "Antique Gear" (
In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, this archetype was solely supported by the anime effect of "Ancient Gear Drill"; the ARC-V anime introduced more support for this archetype. The archetype's counterpart in the TCG/OCG is, for all intents and purposes, "Ancient Gear". The only differences between the two are "Ancient Gear", "Ancient Gear Workshop", "Ancient Gear Drill" and "Toon Ancient Gear Golem", which belong to the "Ancient Gear" archetype but not this one.
In the ARC-V anime, "Ancient Gear" monsters still retained the aspect of preventing the opponent from activating any Spell/Trap Cards, until the end of the Damage Step. With more support for this archetype, a number of these cards focus on Fusion Summoning and inflicting damage. All the "Ancient Gear" monsters are Fusion Materials and the Fusion Monster retain some appearance of the Fusion Materials. Each Fusion Monster have a effect on attacking like "Double Ancient Gear Hunting Hound" can destroy a monster after 1 Gear Counter is placed, "Triple Ancient Gear Hunting Hound"/"Ultimate Ancient Gear Hunting Hound" can attack three times and finally "Chaos Ancient Gear Giant" can negate the opponent monster effect.
