They are wild, more feral, and more armored versions of their original forms, complete with their own ace card, "Rainbow Dark Dragon" who rivals "Rainbow Dragon".
History[]
"Rainbow Dark Dragon" was first released in the OCG and TCG in Phantom Darkness while "Advanced Dark" debuted in Return of the Duelist. The archetype was officially introduced in the OCG in Animation Chronicle 2022 and in the TCG in Battles of Legend: Crystal Revenge.
Playing style[]
The "Advanced Crystal Beast" archetype plays very similarly to their original forms. However, the archetype's monsters are highly reliant on their Field Spell Card "Advanced Dark" to remain on the field in the Monster Zone, otherwise they are sent to the GY (or, in the anime, destroyed). All of them have stronger effects than their original counterparts, though these effects only support their own archetype and do not work on their original counterparts. Nevertheless, all general "Crystal Beast" support cards will support "Advanced Crystal Beast" monsters including their "Crystal" and "Rainbow Bridge" Spell and Trap Cards.
Unlike in the anime, the OCG/TCG versions of "Advanced Crystal Beast" monsters are distinct from their original counterparts and are never treated as having their respective original counterpart's names. This means that there is a total of 15 different "Crystal Beast" monsters (16 if counting the "Crystal Beast Token" Summoned by "Crystal Aegis") the player can choose from to fill the field or GY to Special Summon "Rainbow Dragon". For deck-building consistency purposes, the player does not have to use all of the "Crystal Beast" monsters, instead they can narrow down to half of the total and utilize the most useful members "Sapphire Pegasus", "Advanced Sapphire Pegasus", "Ruby Carbuncle, "Advanced Ruby Carbuncle", "Advanced Colbalt Eagle" and "Crystal Beast Rainbow Dragon".
Given that "Advanced Dark" turns all "Crystal Beast" monsters into DARK-Attribute, this can enable various DARK plays besides Summoning "Rainbow Dark Dragon", such as Xyz Summoning "Raider's Knight" which can then Xyz Summon "Arc Rebellion Xyz Dragon" or Link Summoning "Dharc the Dark Charmer, Gloomy".
