"Adamancipator", known in Japan as "Adamassiah" (
Design[]
Etymology[]
The kanji translates to "Salvation Stone."
Fitting the kanji meaning, the name of the archetype may come from "adamant" (アダマント); a legendary rock or mineral to which many, often contradictory, properties were attributed, formerly associated with diamond or lodestone; and "messiah" (メシア), a leader or savior of a particular group or cause.
Members[]
The archetype consists of Tuner monsters that resemble human geologists, as well as the non-Tuner "Adamancipator Crystal" monsters that resemble the sealed forms of the "Adamancipator Risen" Synchro Monsters, which resemble other mythological creatures. The artworks of the "Adamancipator Risen" Synchro Monsters also feature the human "Adamancipator" Tuner monster that supposedly unsealed them.
Tuner | Non-Tuner ("Crystal") | Synchro ("Risen") |
---|---|---|
Analyzer | Dragite | Dragite |
Researcher | Raptite | Raptite |
Seeker | Leonite | Leonite |
Playing style[]
The "Adamancipator" Tuners all have two effects:
A: A way to Special Summon themselves, the condition of which varies between them.
B: The ability to excavate the top five cards of your Deck, and Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Rock non-Tuner among them, which remains consistent between each of them.
Similarly, the non-Tuners also have two effects:
A: An effect that triggers when Special Summoned by the effect of an "Adamancipator" card, which varies between them.
B: An ignition effect while in the Graveyard that places a Synchro Monster (that you control, or is in your Graveyard) of the same Attribute back in the Extra Deck, then places itself on top of the Deck.
These effects, alongside "Adamancipator Signs", allows for the archetype to very easily recur itself many times without any issues. Because of this ease of recycling, you have less need to worry about protecting your resources, and can focus on summoning the strongest monsters at your disposal. Since the Tuners can summon any Level 4 or lower Rock non-Tuner, you're able to utilize their effects to potentially summon a Synchro Monster with a Level anywhere between 3 and 6 with Seeker and Researcher, and 5 through 8 with Analyzer. Using their effects do not restrict you to Rock monsters for that turn like you might assume, so you're free to get creative.
The Synchro Monsters that belong to the "Adamancipator" archetype itself are always a great choice to summon, due to them all having generally strong effects, regardless of the situation. They can all excavate the top five cards of your Deck, similar to the Tuner monsters, but do not summon one of the revealed monsters:
"Adamancipator Risen - Leonite" adds a revealed "Adamancipator" card to your hand.
"Adamancipator Risen - Raptite" summons a revealed Rock monster, including if it's Level 5 or higher, or a Tuner.
"Adamancipator Risen - Dragite" returns a number of cards your opponent controls to the hand that is equal or less than the number of Rock monsters revealed.
All of the effects involving excavating require some level of luck in order to be successful, due to you having little control over where the cards you want will be. The "Adamancipator Crystal" non-Tuners are able to slightly mitigate this by placing themselves on top of the deck, but this is only useful for the Tuner monsters. When using the Synchro Monster's effects, your best option is to use the effect of their Field Spell, "Adamancipator Laputite" to place any five "Adamancipator" cards in your deck, on top of the deck in any order. This will allow you to choose which card you add to your hand by the effect of "Adamancipator Risen - Leonite", or place five "Adamancipator" monsters on top of your deck in order to get the most possible use out of "Adamancipator Risen - Dragite".
The "Adamancipator" Synchro Monsters also gain a secondary effect during your opponent's turn if there is a monster with a corresponding Attribute in your Graveyard:
"Adamancipator Risen - Leonite" can Special Summon a Rock monster from your Graveyard.
"Adamancipator Risen - Raptite" can banish one card from your opponent's Graveyard.
"Adamancipator Risen - Dragite" can negate the activation of one Spell or Trap effect.
Flexibility with the Tuners' excavation ability, along with the varied effects from Synchro Monsters, allows the archetype to be very well-rounded. Along with very strong support for Rock monsters in the form of "Koa'ki Meiru Guardian" and "Doki Doki", there's enough to not only make the Deck very strong, but open-ended in what direction you can take with it.
